I have ring-necked doves. The male coos sort of like a pigeon, and the females just sort of scold when I make them move. It sounds like a laugh. They are fun to watch and if you have to leave them all day it's okay, although they watch me all the time I am home. They are sold in pairs and the female lays eggs. When my alpha male was alive, they hatched 2 different times, so if you don't want babies you have to throw the eggs away. I have had ones in the past that have lived up to 10 years. Oh, they are messy and throw their feathers and seed all over the floor. I have found them good companions, although they don't talk or anything. They are big enough that it is easier to handle than a parakeet, but that means a bigger cage.
