I recently took in a rescued Tangerine Ringneck Dove and when I got him home, I noticed that he made some pretty weird noises. My sister said that it was probably just his way of talking and I wasn't too worried about it until my other Ringneck started doing the same noise. I've had Ringneck Doves for over 13 years but never heard this noise before so I was wondering if anything might be wrong with them or if it's just their way of talking.
The noise sounds kind of like a whimper in a way. They don't do it all the time, just once in a while and they generally make the noise 2-5 times in a row with little pauses inbetween.
I recorded the rescue making the noise but of course, our parrot decided to talk too. I got just 1 "whimper" alone...the parrot kept talking right as he did it. It's right at the beggining so you have to listen closely. http://www.freewebs.com/ahnil/obiwhine.wav
Your doves should be fine. You should only worry if you hear the birds breathing heavily, hear a ratteling or raspy noise with inhalation, or they are excessively sneezing.
