I'm interested to see why a thrown playing card can fly. It's a flat piece of paper, so what kind of aerodynamic properties does it have? One theory that has been explained to me is that the rotation of the card acts like the blades on a helicopter. I cannot see if the card bends in some way while rotating, or if the friction of the air on the spinning card is thrown outward in a way that pushes air down like an airfoil? I've looked all over and I cannot find the reason, and I think that in super-slow motion this could be answered.
