To respond to the earlier question about whether the Vatican is Catholic or Christian, I thought Catholicism was Christian. I believe it falls under the commonly accepted veil of Christianity, although there are Christians that don't believe Catholicism is such. So the Vatican is Catholic which is Christian.

ok, you have the oldest religion, who cares, I want the one that works.
just as Christ said himself
If he's just a figure in a book why would you call him Christ--the annointed One and His annointing--you are discrediting your remarks.
Frank discussion is all well and good, but to assume we have the answers is ridiculous. We, as a nation can't even answer simple questions about life's issues, what in the world would make someone think that their so-called rational thinking is the answer to evil spirits? We'll all be lucky to make it through today without getting run over by a truck, no matter what we might think about trucks.

The one that works? What do you mean? Christianity works for some, Islam for others and Hindu for still others. Are you looking for an all encompassing religion or one that just "works" for you? Also, what does our nation's inability to "answer simple questions about life's issues" have to do with rational thinking and evil spirits? Your post is very confusing to me.

I mean that the other religions you speak of try to appease the spirits, offering gifts, etc. In Christianity, we don't do that, as a matter of fact we are warned against it.
When Jesus comes in the house via biblically based Christian belief, they have to leave. Most of the shows where evil spirits are removed are done so by prayer through Jesus Christ.
And about looking for what "just works for me", I see it apparently works for lots of others too, if you watch the show, and it works where others do not. I don't want to appease a spirit it best just leave me and mine alone.
Also, what does our nation's (i.e., 3 million people) inability to "answer simple questions about life's issues" have to do with rational thinking and evil spirits?
By rational thinking I mean that we look at things from the world's point of view as though we have the means and brains to figure this stuff out without God.
I stand by my post, try to rationally figure out how to clear out a haunted house and they will have some fun at your expense.

I dont think you should change your belief system because of the show. I myself was raised chatolict but came to the conclusion that it was not for me. I am now a devout wiccan. What you see on TV is the stereotype that says all other religions are evil and Christianity is the religion that "causes miracles" and "saves you." As long as you have your strong faith in whatever religion, I think you are capeable of these "miracles." Until you're witness to one, you should stay grounded and secure in what you choose to follow.

I've started to doubt much of what is shown on the show. I know that these stories are true - I dont doubt that - However, I believe most of it is fabricated for entertainment purposes. I've noticed a pattern of how they treat religion, specially with catholicism and christianity being prime examples of whats "good" and paganism, satanism, and all others being the "bad." I think thats unfair and biased.

I don't happen to be looking for a new religion myself or am I changing my belief system for the sake of a tv show, which if anyone does it will most likely not last.
Are you so sure it is how the show is portraying christianity or the actual realizations of the people who have lived through these experiences?
I'm pretty sure based upon nearly any other Discovery Channel show I've ever seen that these are personal experiences, not the view of the shows creators and producers.
""What you see on TV is the stereotype that says all other religions are evil and Christianity is the religion that "causes miracles" and "saves you." " Funny that seems to be these folks stories---"I know that these stories are true - I dont doubt that ". Either it is true or it is false. I guess the producers need to drum up some wiccans who have had these experiences, but I doubt that will be possible. Its not bias its just how it is...

As I am grounded in mine and your opinions are your own. But truth is truth and it doesn't matter if it fits in with anyone's opinion.

It's who gets the evil ones out. That's the ultimate power.

Also I'm not catholic nor from any other formalized religious group except to say I believe in Jesus as the Christ and I have seen his power displayed. To each their own and may your wiccan gods protect you.

The post I was responding to has dissappeared---a little wiccan magic I guess. I believe there's magic everywhere--God holds all the atoms of this earth together, its both amazing and magical.

Scaredycat, you stated earlier you were Christian.
I'm sure the shows protrayel of Chistianity only reaffirmed your faith.
We, however, get the shorter end of the stick. ANd yes, you're right maybe they should dig up some wiccans who have had these experiences. I myself have not experienced anything of the like - which only confirms my belief that all tehse things happen to christians. After all, the Devil IS a christian concept.

Also I assume people are gooing to side with whatever faith/religion their in.. but please write more than one-setenced post.. after all, this is a discussion Smile

jtsmithok -- As you grew up a Christian, you should remain as such, especially if you are dabbling with ghosts and/or others. In my research I have found books written by Christians FOR Christians that will explain a lot of things. (I even have access to an ancient text that will knock your socks off.) Even a Native American such as myself will tell you this all fits in to Christianity, Satanism, and whatever else one believes in. It is ALL related and REAL -- YOU choose which one to follow. Smile

Actually, if I recall correctly, the show where the guy used a book to conjure up spirits did contact a wiccan to try to rid themselves of whatever he conjured up and the wiccan could not help them. The spirit(s) only became angrier and the wiccan gave up.

I agree, this show does help to confirm my beliefs, but I do not think that faith confirmation for christians is, or was ever the intention of the show, but an outcome nonetheless.

"After all, the Devil IS a christian concept" Really? Please tell me of a religion where evil is not part of the concept???

You are right. The wiccan or "good" witch or whatever, didn't help at all. It was Jesus that delivered him from the evil.
I watched an episode about a haunting where the ghost was possessing people and terrorizing the family. It seems like the ghost responded to an exorcism and especially a crucifix. I think if this story is 100% true, it must lend some credibility to the bible and to God/Jesus.
There's no way for you to be 100% sure that this story is true.

The crucifix might have been added to the story for effect, to make the story more dramatic. Just because a story is based on something that happened doesn't mean that every single detail is true.

Something as important as your faith should not be influenced by a tv show.

This for me is going to be basically a general post from what I have viewed on this forum in the form of posts. So now that we have that straightened out that this is not directed at anyone in particular, just general.
I am personally a Pagan by choice. If you look at the christian faith-not an attack- many of your "ceremonies" are based on Pagan rituals, or Sabbats and Esbats. Every major christian holiday coincides with a pagan Sabbat or Esbat. If you read the Wiccan rede you will find the number one LAW in Wicca is Do as ye will as long as harm come to NONE. It doesn't matter to me if you follow the same path in life as I do. it is not my decision to make, but before condemning someone for their beliefs, you might want to do some research to expand your horizons. Once again that is utterly and completely up to you. On the belief that Pagans and Witches worship satan I will have to advise you of something. Satan is a christian image, we do not even believe exists. Negative energy, entities, etc. do exists but they have nothing, in my belief, to do with "Satan". I have studied many different religions, and each has their own "benefits". I truely believe that if there is a haunting, and a PRACTICED Witch/Pagan performs a cleansing the area will be cleansed. As a matter of fact i will even tell you one of the spells used when casting a circle(to speak with our Gods and Goddesses)- Thrice around this circle is bound, let evil sink back into the ground. This is said three times before the caster performs any ritual, or spellworking.
I believe no matter what your faith is, if you believe in it it will have a positive affect on you. I do not follow the Wiccan path, but I Do follow some parts of the religion. I am an Eclectic Pagan-meaning I follow many different traditions. I am a tree hugger so of course I do practice some druidic arts. I also follow one of the Norse traditions called Astrau. I follow some Wiccan traditions, and never stop seeking knowledge. I also follow some Buddahist traditions, and have family members who are Buddahist.
I just thought I would share my world views for those who wished to seek answers in life. No one can ever tell anyone else what their faith should be. I have many friends from all types of religious backgrounds.
I love the show A haunting because I believe it sends a very good message of hope and love, and that belief in your own faith no matter what it is will se you through hard times in life. Hopefully I have not offended anyone with this post, if I have let me be the first to say it was not my intention to do so and I apologize. May love, hope and joy bless your lives everyday and may you all live long and blessed lives.Merry Meet and Blessed Be.
