Today was another day in the life of Delilah. I made a post about her being a mud eater. I work third shift and after our morning run, I went to sleep for the day. Had all the dogs in the bedroom with me. Little Miss Delilah (affectionately known as the pirahna crab) ate a bra and chewed through the cord to the fan. Isn't she lovely? Absolutely darling. Next time I'll remember to put toys in the room.
I got comfortable with Gatsby, my first Dane all to myself. He was the wonder puppy. Would hold his pee for a week if you'd ask him. (Never made him do it, but he's just that type.) Then I kept his son, Chaucer. Chaucer ate three couches. Many DVD's. Shoes, too. Then, all the sudden... poof. He stopped. I got comfortable again. Now I have Delilah. She's the SPUNKIEST Dane I've ever ran into. She's nuts. God, I love that floppy little head of hers.
Chewing is always fun. My first dog, a hound mix previously abused, chewed everything. Chair legs, pillows, a new cell phone, stuffed animals, the vacuum cleaner cord...My other dog, an Airedale now, does the same thing! Although she likes socks, stair railings, books, and medicine bottles.
My first dog grew out of it, hopefully, my second one will soon. I laugh when someone mentions 'puppy proofing' there's no such thing.
I definately agree. I mean, we're an extremely active family and we went for a mile jog this morning. They were offleash and ran circles around me, making their jog closer to 2 or 3. She's plenty tuckered out, and what does she do? Waits until my partner isn't home and starts grabbing her dirty clothes off of the floor to suck on her socks.
It's amazing how some of them grow out of it. Gatsby, as I said... no problems. Chaucer, extremely distructive, but I kid you not, he just stopped overnight. He also used to poop in his crate (even if he went right before he was put in), and that stopped in the same manner. We're weaning him out of the crate when we're not home, because Gatsby runs free... because right now, he's Delilah's crate buddy. It's an interesting arrangement.
