Well I am looking for a good companion for me and my future family. As a kid I had 2 Rotties, and 1 German Shpeherd.
I like the Siberian Husky, because it is in my opion the most beautiful breed out there, the only problem is, I know they like to run off, and therefore you need to keep a close watch. I also want the added security of a dog.
The Rottweiler I like because I know it's one of the most loyal breeds. I also like, the brute strength that comes with a Rotty. It's also a very securing dog.
Last but definetly not least is the German Shepherd. The German Shepherd apperals to me because it is strong yet swift, loyal, and securing. Those threee things are very important to me.
I am curently engaged, and plan on having kids. I have just about 1.5 acres, and live kind of set back. Any suggestions or information would be more than welcome.

I think any of those dogs would be great specially because you have room for them to run and play since they are large breeds. Any of those breeds would be good guard dogs just because size alone would scare people off.
When you do find yourself pregnant you should start introducing baby things early and get the dog use to having something else that will take your time and attention so that it wont be jealous
Siberian Huskys are kinda difficult to train at times...but thats just my opinion because i have a 2 yr old husky/wolf mix...thats also a really good thing to have some land to let them run because huskys LOVE to run...or so thats what i heard...congrats on being engaged...
Have you ever looked into an Akita? They look like husky's and shepherds. They are also very loyal and protective. MUCH easier to train than a Husky. They do get big, though. (average 100 pounds). I have attached a picture of my Akita. They're not a breed for everyone, but seems to fit what you're looking for.
I wouldn't pick a dog just on the breed itself. go to your local shelters and vist with all the dogs, I bet you will find the perfect dog that has all the qualitys you are looking for.
When I was a kid, we had a German Shepherd that we got from the humane society. Best dog ever. Sweet, loyal, and a good guard dog.
When you get a dog, be careful though. Find out how it was raised. Find out what its parents are like. A dog that hasn't been treated well as a puppy can have some serious problems.
I like all of those dogs too...but I think the Husky 1. Because with the 1.5 acres all you need is a good trainer to contain the Husky-start with a puppy 2. Rotties and Shepards can be known for some aggressiveness and with kids, you really need to be careful- I love Rotties and Shepards though 3.Huskys ROCK!!! LOL
Akita is a good suggestion. I agree that Huskies are beautiful, though from what I understand they don't make the most effective guards. Either of the other two sound pretty appropriate for you--I've had friends with German Shepherds and Rotties, and both are great dogs. They were good family pets.
I've never had a Rottweiler, but I've owned a Siberian Husky and I now have a German Shepherd mix - I would definitely go for the GERMAN SHEPHERD! In my experience they are easy to train, loyal, intelligent, obedient, good guard dogs, and soooo beautiful! I adopted mine from an animal shelter and she's been the best dog I've ever had!
i agree. go to a local shealter. we had one but was a mix. he was the best ever. he was a sheperd/boader collie. and a great guard dog. also great with kids. also try rescue groups. they have many that need homes too! Cali_Moon
German Shepherds and Rottys will fit what you are looking for beautifully. My childhood pet was a German Shepherd named Heidi, and she by the far the best dog any family could ever ask for. My parents also did some rescue work with Rottys and with proper traing (as with any dog) they made excellent pets! (We had both GS and Rottys around when I was a child, and my mom was a baby sitter and neither breed was aggressive with children at all)
I have a German Shep mix and he is a smart, loyal boy! I would say get a German Shepherd. All three of those dogs are working dogs and they would love to have lots of exercise. All of them would fit well with you but it's all about how you raise your dog. If you want him/her to be friendly and loyal, you have to socialize them when they are very young in different settings with different ages, races, genders of people. Remember Exercise, Discipline, then Affection. Good Luck
