Any dog can be a good dog if it is trained and properly socialized.

Papillons are great dogs! You need to do your research though. Keep in mind that they are toy dogs and may not be good for families with small children or larger dogs that may accidentially hurt them. They are very smart and great at obedience and agility. There are lots Paps that are available through rescue groups. Do an internet search and read as much as you can. Papillons can live for more than 15 years so you want to make sure this is the right dog for you. Check out AKC.org to start.

Even though they have long coats and are very clean dogs, they require brushing about once a week to prevent mats from forming especially around their ears, tail and back legs. They are outgoing dogs who love to play. Even though they're small, they do need exercise and training.

Most important is to go to a reputable breeder. Please do not buy from a puppy mill! A good breeder will be happy to answer all your questions and make sure a Papillon is the right match for you.
