I am very worried. My maltese and my Shi-tzu are always fighting. Everytime I come home from work the maltese fights with the Shitzu because he wants me to pay more attention to him. It has gotten to a point that they have hurt themselves. I don't know what to do to calm them down and for them to be at peace with each other.

they are both males and they are not fixed. I'm also worried if I fixed them will they become sad puppies. I'm kind of scared.

They are fighting because they are both trying to be the dominant male in your house.

Fixing them will not make them sad. Dogs do not have any sense of masculinity as humans do, and the lack of testosterone makes them much more agreeable to be around. Fixing them also takes away their chances of many types of cancer and is a responsible action towards helping the animal population.

Even fixed they are still the same sex. this problem is easily resolved with crate training. crate and rotate.
