Hi, I sure hope someone can help me!! I have a 3 year old pom and I've made a BIG mistake by giving him people food, he is totally refusing to eat the dog food, I've tried putting scraps of people food in and the dog picks the food out! The vet has told me NO people food, NO treats no nothing and he will eventually eat,,, problem with that is I can't not give him any food, I feel like i'm starving him... He looks at me with those beautiful eyes and I can't help but not feed him.... now though, I know I'm not giving him enough people food so I know he's hungry but nope to his food, and yes to ours!! I sure hope someone can help me,,,,, thank you so much in advance...... Janice619

Ahh, he's learning more. Leave his hungers alone a few days, and set his food out in a comfortable area. He might start eating soon.

Also keep in mind that the feeding him human type foods may lead to health issues later on.

You may think you're giving him treats, but actually, you may be contributing to his death. Frown

I sdon't know if this will help but try mixing his food in gravey or a dog safe bbq sauce then slowly add less and less until you don't add any. Smilehope I helped

Janice,

I would recommend the following.

- do NOT leave food out for your dog all of the time.
-Measure what your dog is supposed to have daily and break it into two feedings.
-At meal time place food down and leave it for 20-30 minutes. If your dogs doesn't eat it - pull it up and he gets NOTHING until his next scheduled feeding.

I don't recommend mixing things in food because you will soo develope a picky eater.

I know it sounds harsh...but I can tell you -my corgi gets 1.25 cups of food a day if he doesnt eat there is something wrong. By measuring and keeping track of the food i am able to tell my vet what exactly he is eating.

Certain types of table food can cause many problems including dietary indescretion and pancreatitis.

Just stay tough. If you feel inclined to feed him from the table - simply take part of his daily meal and put it in a bowl on the table and drop a kibble or two every so often. That way he is still "sharing" dinner with you but without the possible problems "people food" can cause.

if you don;t listen to your vet there really is nothing that can be done, dogs don't need treats and you need to realise that what your doing could end up in a very sick dog. A treat is just that, a treat and is not something that should make up the majority of any dogs diet. If the vet says treats need to be taken away entirely then do what your vet says.
