Jitterbug and brother

Question:
What breeds do you see in my puppy, Jitterbug? The only known info is that his mom was a "retriever" presumably a lab, but who knows. I wonder if he might have some border terrier in him because he's getting the "grizzle" coloring on his back that no other species seems to have...? He's about 11 months in the first pic and about 9 months in the second pic with his littermate. He's 12 pounds now and 12 weeks old now, and seems to be on track to be 40 lbs at maturity, 50 tops.
