Lol cop loving? You do realize the number ONE decorated army dog is a pitbull right? They are also very popular as bomb detection dogs and the like nowadays. The rottweiler and doberman are german breeds too. You already stated you like them.
The rottweiler is also frequently used as a police dog. In The Bahamas my father's dog Kojack came from the breeding of a male from the K9 unit there. If you can get a rottweiler for free then it probably isn't a responsible breeder. I don't support people who breed dogs without them being health tested.
It's called being irresponsible ESPECIALLY with rottweilers. You can't test for Hip dysplasia and elbow dysplasia in a rottweiler till they are 14 months and it's not always visible. Some won't show problems till they are 8 and 9 and it's genetic so breeding these dogs will mean the puppies will have the same problem.
Lemme see... my sister-in-law has a Bichon Frise and they are POOR! Down the street from me in a run down-ish type house they also have a Bichon Frise. Though not in one now, I grew up in a Naval neighborhood for the enlisted <i.e. the lower class> and there was everything from ankle biters up to Old English Sheepdogs. From my personal experience the dogs one prefers has little to do with income or social status, and more with personal tastes.
My Parents-in-Law are better off than my husband and I are right now, we own three purebred dogs, they have an adorable collie/brittany mutt along with a purebred black lab.
So, I'd have to say in my personal opinion, I disagree about the factors of breed choice.
I think it's an interesting point but certainly not the whole story.
I think not necessarily for FAVORITE breed, but the breed you OWN, is partly determined by where you grow up and where you stand financially. Of course, once you've owned a certain type of dog, it may well become your favorite breed even if you weren't initially most attracted to it.
You see a huge variety of breeds around me, although it's mostly very popular ones (Goldens, Boxers, Pugs, Bichons, German Shepherds, etc.) I grew up in an upper-middle-class family and we've had Brittanys, Beagles, Maltese, Bloodhounds, Schnauzers, Great Danes, and Salukis! How's that for variety?!
My favorite breeds are sighthounds (Salukis, Borzoi, Afghan hounds, Deerhounds, etc.) and a few miscellaneous others (Bedlington terriers and a few sporting breeds like some retrievers, spaniels, and pointers among them). They're my favorites simply because they're my favorites. I think no matter where or how I'd grown up, they still would be (whether or not I could physically have them might change though.) My favorite breeds haven't changed since I was 5; my first look at the sighthound breeds decided my favorites and influenced me in a lot of ways. I imagine it's the same way for a lot of peoples' favorite breeds.
And BTW, I saw something about Poodles being "fruity." I can't stand statements like that...Poodles are a lovely breed...

You're giving the OP the justification he wants by making "snooty" posts. No need to encourage negative stereotypes. It's nice to have money, and it's great your parents make a nice income to support you, but it's not really appropriate to come off so haughty about about it.
I'm not trying to down anyone. Obviously their is a stereotype that you are trying to point out by stating that "rich" people only have small dogs, and lower income only have tough, guard dogs.
It's a bad stereotype, and a reason why guardian breeds have bad reputations. If people didn't breed them to be extensions of their street reputation or manhood, pit bulls and other such breeds wouldn't be thought of as monsters by so many people.
I believe that this post is trying to give justice to that belief, and I think it's untrue, has no proof or reasoning behind it, and is just a silly and uneducated idea.
I grew up very poor, my mom worked 3 jobs to support us. We grew up with muts, and some were pit mixes. But we also had a purebread AKC American Eskimo. We ended up with him because someone gave him to us. Otherwise I would have ended up with another free dog.
Now I'm considered middle-class and we still own a Rotti/Shepard mix as well as a Black Lab/Pit mix, but we also have a pure breed CKC Dacshund pup. I still refuse to pay for a dog so all the ones we have we got free. I'd rather spend my money on paying for vet bills and food for a dog then paying a breeder for a dog.
I have always loved pits and rotti's but I think that the reason alot of "poor" people end up loving these dogs is because they are around them more and realize that the stereotypes of the vicious bully isn't true.
I'm not fond of poodles, but it's also because I don't like yappy dogs, I loved my Eski and if I could find another for free or cheap I'd have another one. I'd say "foofy" breeds to appeal more to some people because they are a status dog. But overall I think that many people like the breeds they like because they have either done the research or have spent the time getting to know the breed and certain breeds are more compatable with that persons lifestyle and personality.
I love my Rotti because he is sweet and calm and he's good with other dogs and our cats, he's great with kids and is totally non-agressive, not because he is a big dog or a bully. I love our lab/pit because she is playful and fun and loves to play catch and keeps our rotti active and she's a great adopted mom to our little Doxxie.
Basically I think that some people choose certain dogs because they have spent more time around them and decide that's what they like. Some of that is based on what kinds of dogs you are around, which can have something to do with what you and the people around you can afford.
But with some research and time around other breeds your favorites can change as well because breeds you've never been around much before might appeal to you with some exposure.
Pitt-man I am finding some of your posts offensive. About poor people wanting dogs nobody else does like dobes, rotties, and pitts you are pretty much dissing your own breed saying nobody likes them. And Dobes are deffinately not wusses. Mine are FAR from agressive but they won't back down. They never hide in fear.
