Dogs were originally classified as carnivores. Now, many are debating that fact. You have to look at partial teeth and cats for comparison though. Cats can't live on a vegan diet. And dogs do have partial molars. So there are some differences there that you can't ignore.

I'm not saying dogs SHOULD eat a vegan diet. I'm just saying it's possible. And hey, dogs are changing all the time. Things could have changed in a dog's system since first being classified as carnivores.

I'll just reference back to this point then:

Dogs ARE very adaptable, but just because they can survive on an omnivorous diet does not mean it is the best diet for them. The assumption that dogs are natural omnivores remains to be proven, whereas the truth about dogs being natural carnivores is very well-supported by the evidence available to us.

So...then there's really no answer. They're classified as carnivores, but judging by what they can eat, they could be omnivores. There's really no right or wrong answer, there's just not enough information for either side.

As I keep seeing everywhere, it's a matter of thrive vs. survive.I think living in the modern age that we do today, with choices of all sorts available to consumers, that no dog should just have to survive if it can thrive.

Ok so I have a wolf and she's is real gentle. Why would you say having a wolf would be askin for trouble? My wolf Maggie runs around our forest on the ranch and has a great time. She and my retriever had a baby and he looks a lot like is mama.

Hey flower, it is awesome. She is so gently and loving. We got her cause these other ranchers raised her when she was a baby, then they set her free in the wooods near ours. She didn't know how to survive on the wild since she was raised by humans. Anyway she wondered onto our ranch and dad said we could keep her as long as it was ok with the sherrif. He said yep and now we do, she has a baby too.

I think dogs are omnivores they will eat anything you give if they can if you have a picky dog then it's a different story

It's lovely for people to THINK dogs are omnivores, science has again and again proven they are not so what exactly are we arguing about here.

It's like saying well because I eat a diet of completely meat and have suffered no ill effects (many humans do this some even eat only raw) that we are carnivores.

Also countrygirl2 Why are the dog and wolf not fixed?

Maggie and Lucky are fixed now but they weren't two years ago. We had just got Maggie then and dad didn't want Lucky fixed. I'm glad they weren't cause they had fang.

because breeding ANY dog should be left to ethical responsible breeders who go through the appropriate lengths before breeding such as testing against genetic defects, proving their dogs through show or work titles etc.
