ok well I just found out my grandmother's getting a little jack russel puppy on spring break( yippee Roll Eyes) and I know I'm getting stuck training it. Even though I know it probly wont last long I mine as well train it.
Can anybody with experience give me some ideas on how to train or atleast trainability, I've really only had experience with APBTs which if you own one you know they're easily trained.

thanks

JRT are seriously crazy. LOL

So much energy, tenaciously, personality, and strong will.

Very smart, but almost too smart.

I have a 1/2 JRT, but it's the only breed she exhibits, and she's nutso.

But that's why I love her.

i just read that they are difficult to train and shouldn't be with an inexperienced owner. I'm not worried about me cuz I've trained alot of dogs but she can't even keep a dog yet alone train it

Maybe if she was getting an adult instead of a puppy, but puppies are NEVER calm.

If your grandma isn't a seasoned pet owner, I would seriously try to talk her into a different breed if at all possible.

They really are little balls of fire.

its not that she hasnt had dogs its just like within the last year or 2 she's had like 2 or 3 dogs that she keeps for a little while then she gets rid of. I dont know how she does it cuz I could never really do that after I have a bond. I dont know if she's trained a dog before , but I trained the first dog she got after the dog, that they had before I was born, died. The others only lasted so long, I didnt even know about them until after they were gone but she wants a small, calm, puppy but she keeps picking energetic breeds (a collie, a boston terrier/ pitbull?/boxer? mix, and now a jack- maybe mix I just got pics and the sire looks a bit mangy but I'm not sure) I'll put a timer on it I dont think its gona last much longer then a couple months. I tell her everytime before you go get a new dog let me come down there and help you pick one and not just go 'oh that one's cute' but like everything noone listens to the smartest one in the family

She's a dog recycler, huh? That's too bad. I wish she'd let you help her pick out a dog too.

Good luck training the puppy and I hope this one lasts.

yeah, well its coming from a friend of my uncle. they said I'm not going to pick the pup but if there is room mI might see if I can or just tell them to pick the calmest.

it sucks for me too, because I did get kind of close to her first pup which I think training him got me ready for my pit a couple months later. but my family is a bunch of flip floppers that blame me for everything so I cant expect much from them
