Okay, I am a whole heartedly, total Corwin head, so this comment is just a neutral one. Here goes: I have to admit that Jeff's humor was a bit inappropriate at times with the local people. These people from the country side are poor and most likely uneducated and really don't understand the fact that Jeff's intentions are good. His humor to us is a form of educating the public, but at times they looked like they were a bit irritated or just did not know what to say or what to make of it. Even when he ate that donut whole, the vendor seemed a bit confused and shocked that why did he do that? I thought it was funny and cute and knowing him he is a great guy that tries to make "light" out of every situation. I love this episode for all the courage he took to go out and collect the venom samples and to show everyone that what the situation is like out there. BUT, he needs to lighten up with the local people at times that don't understand the western humor and where it is going?????????? So this comment is by no means a put down for Jeff, just a thought!!!!!!!!
I agree with what you said KIK, but I have another thought too. First of all, I would think, or hope, that someone would try to explain to these people what Jeff will be doing or saying. But they may not fully understand so there is no reaction. Also, these people I'm sure have never been on TV before and just don't know how to act or react. If I was on his show and on TV I'd be so nervous I'm sure my reactions would be inappropriate to say the least, and I understand his humor!! I have to admit tho that the chain saw bit was a tad insensitive, but that's Jeff. But he is by no means an imbecile, a moron, or a buffoon as he was called by an incredibly arrogant and annoying and distasteful piece of.....sorry, person! (I almost dropped to their level) But I enjoyed the show, I laughed alot through it, was nervous for Jeff while he was milking the snakes, and the time just went too fast. That's one rerun I haven't tired of watching yet.
You both have very good points. There are so many factors that come into play in the Mexico episode. The slight language barrier, the show's crew, which I am sure threw the hospital for a loop, Jeff's obvious "not so subtle presence", which I am sure can be a bit overwhelming at times, plus the fact that not everyone gets his sense of humor. Can you imagine him being serious ANYWHERE? I can't. We all know his sense of humor and love it, but we are used to it. I don't think he was insensitive at any time during the show. He of all people knows how serious it is to be bitten by a venomous snake. But he also knew that the antivenom was there and the boy would be fine. I think he was just using the "Jeff way" to make a stressful moment easier on everyone.
I agree with all of you. About the previous topic, I'm not saying anything mean, but I was appalled at what was being said about Jeff by a person that I will not mention. I was horrified that this person did not show the decency and respect towards Jeff and all his fans on this forum. Jeff has done so many great things, he takes time out of his own life to try to help animals and make sure people know what's going on. Jeff does not deserve to be degraded like that after all the time he spends trying save animals and increase the awareness of their importance to this earth. Jeff has worked too hard to have such fowl things said about him.
Another thing too is the show is edited down to just that one hour. They film much, much more than that, but the end result is what we see, and sometimes that may not show the "whole" picture. What we interpret to be one way, may in fact be completely opposite. All in all, I enjoyed this episode. It put Jeff where he is most comfortable, teaching and educating the people about those snakes, so that they can live more harmoniously together.
