As we remember these events, 64 years ago today, we take time to remeber the galant efforts of both the Imperial Japanese Fleet and The US Navy during this epic battle, and the sailors who gave their lives in defense of their countries.
As a thought for the 65th anniversary next year, an idea for a show (or series of shows). We have all seen the video footage of WWII naval combat in multiple shows, multiple times. There is just not enough archival footage to show every combatant of every single engagement ever fought. So, my idea:
In the footsteps of Walking With Dinosaurs, Pearl Harbour, Titanic, etc. you bring back to life the grand fleets of the WWII navies in computer generated battle recreations. Let us not only see small glimpses of actual footage, but also CG representations of the carriers, fighters, destroyers, cruisers and such. Give us the names and the stats of each. Show the battle as it has never been seen before. This could easily be done in the next year.
I, myself, am a computer artitst and self proclaimed WWII Naval Historian. I've created a small sample of low polygon WWII models on my website, and they only took about a month to complete them all.

(not intended as a plug, just an example)
We don't need super-detailed models of every combatant, we just need enough detail to keep the viewers attention and say "wow, thats incredible." Game programmers have been doing this for years with UV mapping of low resolution models with very fine detailed "skins".
Let's remake all the major battles of WWII. Get a good narrator (Think James Woods, Peter Weller, or even Leonard Nimoy). Let's make a new mini-series and throw it on DVD. I'd buy it in a heartbeat.
Saf0775, great idea. Something like a modern "Victory at Sea". Before someone jumps on your statement calling the efforts of the Japanese "galant", I agree, we better respect our enemies. If you underestimate him, he will eat you for supper!
