The Military Channel focuses to much on modern conflicts. Why not some more programs on napoleonic wars and War of 1812, and stuff like that. There is praticly nothing from this time period.
Couldn't agree more! Even though there's no film from pre 20th century wars, seems like there's a great opportunity to bump up CGI or other graphics so we can at least take a look at the tactics. weapons and strategy.
dudes u want battles from back then u gotta go on the history channel. although i have to say that there is not enough programming on WWII and too much in the war in Iraq.
not enough programming from WWII?!?! Are you insane?!?! Everytime I turn the Military Channel on, it's talking about WWII!! Or Vietnam!
Rarely do you hear about the conflicts in Africa, or hear about things like the Australian role in East Timor, or what the Gurkhas did when they were fighting in WWII (what's a gurkha, you ask? Exactly.) Desert Storm has been covered in excruciating detail... but the Iran-Iraq War is almost entirely forgotten!
It's just too narrow of a scope. Widen the world view and it'll be a better channel.
the new show 20eth century battlefields, how it uses computer graphics to show units, would be great for Napoleonic conflicts with there huge numbers of men, i agree that there actually are more countries in the world other than US, Britain, and Russia, i would like to see shows that explain how tactics have evolved from the shock en mass waved of troops of the Napoleonic ara, to the shock and awe tactics of today, i would also like to see the small scale guerrila wars in Africa, or the chinese civil war, or the american civil war
"not enough programming from WWII?!?! Are you insane?!?! Everytime I turn the Military Channel on, it's talking about WWII!!"
I disagree. Most of the WWII programs are old reruns that are 5+ years old. Their main WWII series, "WWII Battlefront," has grown very stale.
I also agree there is too much emphasis on Iraq and Afghanistan. If I want to see a show about these ongoing conflicts, I can turn on CNN or Fox News anytime, 24 hours a day, and be guaranteed to see something. I'm not saying the Military Channel shouldn't produce any programming on these wars, but there should be more programming on older conflicts and technology.
Actually, napoleonic wars would bore me to death. However, I am so tired of seeing the same weaponalogy and battlefront eppisodes. Notice how the History channel has almost taken all military shows off, so you have to upgrade to a higher package? I liked the world at war series they use to show that had many, many more WWII shows. I find those the best. If I see the bald headed seal one more time I'm going to bust.
the history channel used to be really good and have a lot of military stuff. now they are like the discovery channel. history international has more military stuff mostly about ancient wars, the napoleonic wars, and world war ii. it is refreshing not see the same thing over again and again.
Things to consider: History channel is supposed to be America centric.Hist. Int'l is programming made outside the U.S. That's why I like them both.
They can only show what programming exists. The nazis filmed everything for propaganda. They also like to show things in "english" so we can understand it.
There are mini series and shows about lesser wars like Spanish American and Mexican American wars that were anti-American IMHO.
