Was afraid Flower was going to be in trouble when she entered the hole to protect her babies from the cobra. I didn't expect she would be bitten on the head, though. When I found that out, I knew she was doomed. Flower was a courageous meerkat. She was a very good leader, and made wise decisions...over 40 meerkats in the family proved that. Her shoes will be hard to fill, as her family must know that. Farewell Flower, rest in peace.

I am so very grateful to all those who have made Meerkat Manor possible. It has become more importnat to me than I ever could have imagined, and I still grieve for Shakespeare and Tosca and Carlos and so very especially Flower. I pray Zaphod lives - and loves - well again.

Even as I watched the show where Flower died, knowing someone would, I had NO idea it would be her. She is, of course, my favorite, and every time I watch it, I cry. But all of the meerkats have brought great joy to me, my heart is happy each time I watch, even under the sadness I feel for their struggle and pain. Flower is TRULY missed by me and so many others. She is in 'meerkat heaven' with all those who have gone before her. WHAT A LADY!!!

To all the wonderful MM viewers who have responded to this Condolence List I posted just a few weeks ago:
I am truly overwhelmed by all the love and despair and grief and deep sadness, and yet HOPE that so many of you have expressed here - I never thought this list would grow to the length it has! I certainly hope the producers and AP and the researchers will take the time to read these many pages...

And tonight we all saw the death of dear sweet Mozart... Truly this program is getting so hard to watch... I may have to start a Condolence List for all the other little Meerkats who have left us, Flowers babies, and all the others...

I watched the MM marathon the other day, going back to before Flower died, and cried just as hard all over again to see poor Flower charge into the hole to defend her pups, knowing the horrible outcome - how much we still miss our Kalahari Queen, with her loving heart she might have accepted Mozart back to the Family...and that thought hurts too much.

Flower we still miss you terribly and now your brave daughter, Mozart, as well - your Family has changed so much since you left us for the Rainbow Bridge and Shakespeare and Len and Squiggy and all the other meerkats we loved week after week!!

Run free and play hard in Heaven, sweet babies - our hearts still break for all of you...
Jane

It was so unexpected to see Flower die. Even more so that she had to suffer. I would have hoped she could have been helped by those who study and are filming them. The dangers are understood, a shot of anti-venom would have been wonderful! The show will never be the same without her. This wonderful strong family protecting female will always be in our hearts and never forgotten. Flower has left a wonderful legacy! RIP sweet Rose of the desert!

Farewell to Flower, the Desert Rose of the Kalahari, and to her daughter Mozart. These precious creatures have touched the hearts of many, and their lives will be remembered. Thanks to AP for this show, and while it has been hard seeing those that we all love die, they have left a memorable impression in our lives that will live for a long time. The compassion of those who watch is tremendous, and our love will carry those who are lost for many years.

I had grown so, oh so attached to Flower that I still can't stop the tears from falling. This caught me so off guard. Friday was my first times that I watch this season shows. I had missed the beginning of the season so I had to wait to play catch-up. And I was really thrown off guard. Flower - an awesome leader she was.

on behalf of me and my mom, who absolutely love meerkats, we are heartbroken that Flower died and it's unbearable to think that she went painfully. But she is no longer suffering now and that's comforting. I will always remember Flower not only for her courage and smarts, but the cute moments when she made me laugh! Like when the camera would close-up on her face and you'd get a look at her 'lil snaggle tooth or a pesky tiny bug on her fur...when she would sun herself to warm up in the morning...when she was really hungry and ate a small bird which is really unusual...when her pups curled up beside her...when she led all the Whiskers out to forage...when her and Zaphod would groom each other...the list goes on and on and on! Not only was Flower the most recognizable on the show by her tracking collar, but she was also always big and pregnant! What a loving mother, fearless leader, and cherished part of the manor. We will always miss her and think of her fondly...the beautiful dessert rose. Love and Farewell.

PS - She was not just TV but a real part of our family and our hearts

PSS - In a TV sense though, the voice of Sean Astin on narration lends a warm, compassionate, youthful/playful and educational aspect to the show which we enjoy. Also, we would love to see more footage of the meerkat pups in the burrow and learn more info on their birth and growth before they start coming up out of the den. But other than that, please keep airing the show just the way it is! Thank you.

even still I think about Flower. her eyes were beautiful and wise and full of hope. also, i hope i wasn't the only one to notice, but, sometimes when the camera would close-up on her face or side profile, her cute little snaggle tooth would be showing and she just brought a laugh and smile to me.

Flower's name also really fit her in the truest and best way. She was delicate yet strong and hardy, beautiful and sweet. I am comforted to know she is no longer suffering and that she had such an active life rich and full of love and family, good times and not so good ...she truly reflects us humans and she'll always be loved and remembered. She was not just tv but a real part of our family and our hearts. I am grateful to our Creator who gave all creatures life that we can share and love and observe them.

Flower WAS Meerkat Manor.
I am so sad she is gone. and very sad she suffered.
Flower..you were a successful mother and leader.
Your work is done. You live on in spirit through your babies who are now spread across the Kalahari, and the millions of people who came to know you.
Rest In Peace Flower..Queen of the Kalahari.
We miss you.

Animal Planet did a replay of Meerkat Manor this past weekend, and of course they showed brave Flower entering the burrow to save her babies, and it brought it all back that our once comfy manor, ruled and held together by the Queen, is no longer a solid, happy, one-big-happy-family place, but now seemingly populated with splinter groups, and off-shoots of Flower's empire... This new season will be interesting, but perhaps not as much fun without dear sweet Flower to keep her mob in line - too many familiar faces are gone, too many empty holes in our hearts, too many tears shed for those lost, and much, much too often.

I know this is life in the desert, and life is often unfair and cruel, but I truly hope Flower's sacrifice does not totally destroy this little group of meerkats that we grew to love ands root for each week... Sometimes it's hard to know who went where and who rules what - but let's truly hope that this next season is a happier one, and that maybe the film crew and researchers can pull this mess back into something we can understand and be willing to watch -- NOT to make up stories or 'stage' episodes to please the viewers, but perhaps follow the various groups (as best they can when there's a 'war' on!) so we can get a clear picture of what's happening with Flower's big family...

I doubt there will ever be a leader like Flower again, not even Hannibal (who's apparently been around for a while), and the Manor will never be like it was, but maybe her babies will grow up to take over and make the Manor something she can be proud to look down on and say "Those are MY kids!!"

Flower, we still miss you more than your little furry heart will ever know...
