Flower
Beloved Queen of The Kalahari
It is true to say that I don’t think an animal could touch the hearts, minds and souls of the human race in such a way that Flower did. The Queen of the Desert. Loyal, protective, bold and true, she was an amazing leader, who fought the toughest, hardest battles any meerkat could face, and triumph with a smirk of victory. Her proud, clear eyes were so deep; it always looked as though she were all-knowing, and was observing all around her. She had a keen look, and edge about her that just made you look at her and think “Wow!”
She was an exceptional animal, a lover, a mother, a rose among thorns. A fighter, a warrior, a conqueror of all her enemies. We learn so harshly that she would do anything to save her young, fend off all dangers that threatened her family, even at the eventual cost of her own life. Flower was both a sinner and a saint, but she was never afraid. She would not hesitate to do the best thing for her family, even if that meant kicking out her own daughters such as Tosca and Mozart.
Remember also, her kind acts, such as saving and accepting young Axel after a battle, and so selflessly saving her young from the cape cobra. Acts like those will never be forgotten by anyone who watched Meerkat Manor, or anyone who worked around her and got the honor and absolute privilege of seeing her up close. Perhaps what made Flower so endearing was the fact that she was never perfect, as none of us are, and that was why we took her to our hearts. She is a great role model, for meerkats and humans, for although she made mistakes, she always put her family’s needs before her own. Sure she could be harsh, and temperamental, and a little cold, she was also loving, caring and very sweet, always with the greater good in mind.
She was amazing, noble and all-round incredible. Such a successful and loved meerkat has never been seen before, and I highly doubt any other like her will ever emerge again. Although she is gone, she is not forgotten, and never will be. Thank you Animal Planet and your amazing researchers, for letting us glimpse into the life of this awe-inspiring creature we have come to know and adore. Flower, the boldest, bravest, most selfless and loved meerkat the world has ever known. Rest In Peace, until we get the great honor of meeting you on the other side…
