Sometimes the smallest creatures have the biggest tales....

We have all posted many many memorials about Flower in the Flower memorial, but I can always say more about her here.

Flower was a beautiful little creature...one that captured my heart from the minute I heard about her and witnessed her bravery. I loved her leadership and her dedication to her family, always making sure that they were safe.

I bought the book that was all about her and I love seeing her beautiful face and to read about her life.

When remembering Flower's death, I always remember the beautiful haunting words spoken by Sean Astin at the end of Journey's End....

"For four years Flower was the faithful dominate of the Whiskers group. From humble beginnings she created one of the largest close-knit families on the manner. She was a formidable leader and noble mother. The desert has lost it's favorite rose. Though Flower died protecting her pups, the true measure of a leader is not determined by one single act, it's their lasting legacy that truely matters"

Flower's legend lives on in her children and grandchildren.

Flower, you will always be in my heart...

You will always be loved, missed and never forgotten....

I can never get enough of reading or talking about Flower. Each time, I find something more about her that touches my heart.

I never expected to become so enamored of a tiny creature that I could never meet, let alone hold. But as I held the meerkats at FE, Flower was in my heart. It was as if she could say to me, "See how Kendi pulls your hand open to get the food? That's how strong I was in life!" "See how beautiful Rafiki's eyes are? My eyes were just as sharp to spot danger for my mob!"

Other than my family furbabies, and all furbabies we have are family members, I have never felt this for any other animal. That was the power of Flower. She touched human hearts as if she were with us physically, not on a TV screen. I am inspired by her determination, her will to survive and strengthen her family. Her attachment to Zaphod, the teamwork they used to hold such a large mob together - I can see it as an example of the true nature of pair bonding. What a wealth of knowledge came to us through her. She truly was one of nature's finest, and a true Queen of the Kalahari.

I know that human emotions did not direct her actions - to some degree! But the last scenes of her jumping in to playfight with her pups, well who could watch that and not believe that she did it just for the sheer fun of romping with the kids, just like any loving human parents?

For me, she will never be gone. And I am glad that love for her led me here, to be with people who understand and share the feelings I have for her. I see her in every single meerkat in the show, and will watch no matter what. She has left a legacy we are not able to see so completely in any other animal.

This is Flower's place. Long live the Queen!

She faced adversity without fear, she learned through trial and error and made tough decisions, she showed great courage and much love. She also passed her genes to some wonderful kats.

After all these months, thinking of the fallen Queen of the Whiskers still makes me cry. Her big heart, her ability to be a fierce defender, a caring mother, and also a great leader all at once was simply amazing.

She's still missed and she shall be for a long time to come.

Flower a tale of love:

Flower was a mother of meny litters in meerkat manor and was loved by all who watched it.
unforunetlty trying to save her new pups died, by a bite of a cape cobra.
love that had burned in our hearts for her was broken. to love is a privaledge, and to be brave is hard.
Flower, her passion for her pups was stronger then instinkt and she was more then just an anmal. She was a hero.
--

Thanks for reading! this took me a while for the tears to go down. Flower was my favorite meerkat, and we all loved her.
she was a leader, and a mother.
a twelve inch animal changed all our lives, and to think...she WAS an animal.
Not a normel one, but, a caring one who had more love and courege then fear.

RIP flower meerkat from God, -FLowerweloveyou

kreyzee: There was talk that they did try to save her, but she was pregnant when she was bit by the snake and in very poor condition. Her little body just could not take it and therefore she passed away within 48 hours of being bitten. If possible try to read the book about Flower, it really is wonderful. It tells her story from when she was born until she died. When she died, in the Journey's End episode, this board was overwhelmed with tributes to Flower. If you get a chance go to youtube and type in Flower the Meerkat and see what you get. It is quite amazing to to see how a little 12 inch animal can create such a following. She really was something quite special. Sean Astin, the narrator for MM for 3 seasons, really told the story so well. I can still hear his words of tribute for Flower at the end of Journey's End:

For four years Flower was the Whiskers faithful dominant. From humble beginnings she created one of the largest close-knit families on the manor. She was a formidable leader and noble mother. The desert has lost it's favorite rose. Though Flower died saving her pups, the true measure of a leader is not determined by one single act, it is their lasting legacy that truly matters. And as Liz takes her first faultering steps out of the burrow into the light, Flower's legend lives on.

It is really wonderful that we still have this place to come to and talk about Flower, Mozart, Rocketdog, so many others too and of course our precious and wonderful Zaphod, Flower's partner for so long. Bless his heart. He is still going strong.

The Kalahari changed when Flower left us but her legacy really does live on in her children and grandchildren. It is nice to see what a difference she made. I will always have a special place in my heart for Flower. She will never be forgotten.

kreyzee:

In addition to all of the memories of Flower and others on here, there is a place called Fellow Earthlings, in Morongo Valley CA., near Palm Springs, that has 7 meerkats that you can and visit. You are able to spend 2 hours with them and feed them. It really is a wonderful place to visit. You can get all the info on their website. Many people have gone there and had such a wonderful time. I will be going again in a couple of weeks and in October as well. I just cannot get enough.

I am sure that you are aware of the meerkats in many zoos across the country. They are so enjoyable to watch. Such personalities.

I'm back! At last... After many things I had to make (some still to do). And it's me: the old georgewhiskers1 who promised to leave new messages!!!

Well, here I wanted to say that every time I found to do that, I watched Meerkats in YT, the NG's story about Kolo for example... And they always reminded me my favorite family from the Kalahari.

I've been also in a half-dreaming state the last 2 weeks, in which I felt the big need of whatever the Kalahari desert had to show me; good or bad, under that clear, golden Sun.

Now maybe I know the home of Flower much better, so my admiration for her, and the way she led her family with Zaphod by her side, can only have grown stronger just like some big form of my love for that Queen.

To Flower Whiskers... Maybe always more than all the good things we can say.

We, the members of a dedicated meerkat loving group created a petition that was posted on Care2, an international petition site that reaches many people. The petition is addressed at network executives, and its purpose is to generate as many signatures by viewers, and lovers of Meerkat Manor, and meerkats in general in order to convince them to start filming the program again. Thank you for your help. Please inform friends, and family about the petition, and the link to it. This is a link to the petition site:
