I WOULD HAVE JUMPED IN FRONT OF THAT SNAKE PULLED FLOWER BACK AND HAVE BEEN BITTEN MYSELF!!! SERIOUSLY I CANT STAND TO WATCH THE WHISKERS FALL WITHOUT HER!!! SOMETHING MUST BE DONE!!!
Another Meerkateer Athena just went to the Kalahari in October and she was able to get alot of real information as to what actually happened and I hope it makes you feel better to know that the researchers were not able to see her until she came out of the burrow the following morning surrounded by her loving family and the moment they all left to forage the researchers did pick up Flower removed her collar and tried to save her. One researcher even went so far as to try to resusitate her. They loved her too and were devastated of her death, especially since they had all known her from birth. They even buried her and gave her a grave marker. Anyways I hope this helps you and I too still cry alot of Meerkat tears for her.. I am even considering getting a tattoo of her head and her name on my shoulder. Have faith time will help ease the pain of her loss. Also the Staten Island Zoo has dedicated their new Meerkat encloser to her and there is a plack of her there if you would like to see it visit their website I know it made me feel a touch better to know so many other people loved her too
Thank you luv4flwr it makes me feel a lot better knowing that they did try to bring her back. I just wish that someone who loved her could have been there to save her. R.I.P Flower. p.s. i have dedicated my first album to her and i even have made her a song about all the wonderful things she has done. =)
Hi Lilly you are very welcome! I would love to hear the your song about Flower if you can email it please send it to me at Love4Meerkats@aol.com thank you!
I love our Queen[who doesn't?] I know itis very hard to watch her die. But I remember, in s1 of MM, it said, " Whatever her choice, no one will dare stop her." If they did try to save her, that could mean the death of the pups. She would not have that, so she went to save them. No one could or would stop her. As for the bite, upon getting it, she[ and I said this to my BFF, Sally] didn't have a chance. A cape coba, the most leathal snake on Earth, bit the head of an animal that weight 2 poundsand was a foot tall. Don't get me wrong, I did actually say, when she went under-ground, " No, Flower, no!!!" But stopping her was against her will. She wanted to save the pups, even if it meat death! "No greater love hath a man who lais down his life for a friend!"
sorry luv4flower but im planning to do something very special with my song that i cant really explain. Nothing at all against you personally but i just dont want others knowing.
Noodlenoo that is sweet what you said and so true. A Cape Cobra bite has enough venom in ONE bite to kill a dozen humans, Flower never stood a chance. Underground anyways, above ground it is a 50/50 chance it can go either way. And her legend lives on in our memories. She was chosen to be the star of MM because she was so unusually successful as a DF, and she had earned a special spot in the researchers hearts. She was loving but firm, loyal, and a couragous leader. The Kalahari just wont be the same without her. I am looking forward to S4 and finding out what has been happening with her family.
