I am always amazed at how broken up I get at some of the silliest things. I never met Flower, I never got to watch her more than once a week for 30min. and yet to see her die it was like losing a family member.
Flower was the kindest of any meerkat. At least as far as the show is concerned she never killed a single pup whether they be hers or not. No matter who got pregnant she was never overly brutal in her punishment and always allowed anyone to come back to the mob. If a litter was born that was from a family member she took them as her own. Even a baby who was from a rival gang, she took under her wing without consideration of what it might mean.
How could one small animal be kinder than some human beings when the animal runs off nothing but instinct it is born with from day one? Flower was a light in the darkness of the world, a small flicker of a flame that hopefully touched more than one life in some way to show that even the smallest of animals can show compassion that is bigger than themselves.
To put it simply (and somewhat corn-ily) she was a candle in the wind. Though her light has gone out she has at least touched this human's life to be more compassionate.
