At 26 I had a kidney stone. I was told it wasn't a big deal since I didn't have any others. Soon after that I got pregnant with my second child both pregnancies were very hard. My second son was born 6 week early but after 2 weeks in the hospital he was ok very small but ok. I should also mention I have had a history of bad migraines since I was 19. So bad in fact when I have gone to the ER they give me a spinal every time.
In June of 07 I got my second stone this time it was very different though. While in the ER I was told both of my kidneys had many stones and I needed to see a urologist ASAP. So I went and was told my case was to complicated and I needed a stone center. The stone center treated me as though all I wanted was drugs so I refused to go back but they did order a 24 hour urine that showed I have a rare form of hypocitria so I'm on 6 pills of potassium citrate per day and I'm told the hypocritical is "under control"
The problem I'm still passing stones. Between June and November I passed 60+ stones I'm not talking small ones either most are at lease 2.5mm some are as big as 5mm since the end of November I'm closer to 85+ and now I'm told the sons have a different make up they were calcium oxalate now they are fat and protein or cholesterol.
Does any one know about these conditions? My 26 year old 1/2 sister has stones as well. On Monday my 19 year old sep sister passed her first stone and was told each of her kidneys has around 10 stones in each kidney.
Are there environmental reasons for stones? What could be going on with our family? My kidneys aren't working 100% anymore I'm scared they are going to fail and my boys won't have a mom.

Hi! I know where you are coming from; for my body makes kidney stones like it's going out of style. After not getting any answers from any urologist, I saw a kidney specialist. After doing a 24 hour urine study and some special blood tests, it was determined that my body naturally makes too much oxylate, which draws calcium from my bones to make calcium oxylate stones. He put me on potassium and diuretics to try to decrease the amount of oxylate in my system. He also told me that I actually need to take calcium supplements to make up for the calcium the oxylate takes from my bones and put me on a low oxylate diet. Despite all these attempts, my body continues to make almost triple the normal amount of oxylate. My father and his brother have the same condition. Having several kidney stones on a daily basis is "normal" for us. The problem comes when the stones decide to get stuck and therefore cause blockage and have to go through lithotripsy and cystoscopy to remove the stones the block, not to mention the pain involved with passing stones or having stones block the ureter on a regular basis. I would highly suggest that you see an actual kidney specialist to get your urine and blood oxylate and calcium levels tested. Unfortunately there is no cure in this case; just control measures to try to reduce the amount of oxylate. I'm not a medical professional; I'm just a very experienced patient. Let me know what you find out from the kidney specialist. Hope this helps and I wish you the best. I know it's aggravating to say the least.
