Is it true that a potato will explode in a microwave if not pierced? If so, how deep one must pierce it? Would just taking the skin off cause it to not explode? Maybe the whole thing is a myth, but I don't want the mess to find out.

I tried it for 4 minutes on high and it didn't work, but it was pretty cool.
It started spewing steam from one end, which made it vibrate really fast. That might've made someone think it was going to explode. Eventually, though, it stopped vibrating and steam was leaking out everywhere. Nothing happened when I exposed it to cold water or pricked it with a knife.It was pretty hot though. Made a fun game of hot potato.
