I would like to see color changing paint. One color when it is cool in the room and another when it is warm. Or perhaps it changes when the lighting changes. I think that would be really neat. Interior and exterior paint. Another series that would be really interesting would be on the Wichita Mountains, the Wildlife Refuge, Meers and the Lawton/Fort Sill, Oklahoma area. It is one of the best kept secrets in the U.S. quote: Originally posted by discovery-channel: Discovery Channel is starting production on an exciting new series, and we need your help.
We're sending a crack team of high-powered engineers out to invent the coolest new products of the future -- stuff that you've always wanted, but that no one has thought to invent yet.
But we need ideas on what they should build. What new inventions would solve some of your biggest or most common problems? What gadgets would make your life so much easier and take care of your biggest annoyances?
Maybe a pair of "face recognition" glasses that never let you forget people's faces ... or their names? How about a personal wearable air bag that saves you from broken bones when you're skiiing? A car that parallel parks itself?
Post your suggestions right here by Monday, May 8. The best ideas will be judged by our panel of engineers and could make it onto an upcoming show.
(Note: the idea becomes the property of Discovery Communications Inc.)
Thanks for your help!

dear reader(s): this message is for a series on discovery kids. my idea on this thought is to ,in light of schools letting out, spread information on amusement parks nationwide. for this reason, this show should be fun and informational, giving info on a ride at an amusement park works, and showing how entertaining it could be. at my age...between 13 years and 17 years, i feel one or two hosts in that class of ages should be presented, this is because they can get the message to children, while showing adults the excitement their friends/ relatives could have. if need be/possibe..i would like to nominate myself as one of the hosts
thank you kindly: my_theory_of

My idea is to have a television series on Discovery Channel involving inventors that are motorheads/gearheads that will showcase their inventions. Their inventions should be related to motorcycle and automobile parts and tools.
Contestants would be prescreened prior to appearing on the show for determination of viable invention (parts/tools).
A panel of judges who are industry recognized leaders and innovators will critique the inventions for viability, marketability, patentability, etc. If the panel determines a contestant has an invention fulfilling the above criteria then the panel, aka Discovery Channel would work with them on assisting them to getting their invention to patent, manufacture and then to market.
This could then become a series on how to get an invention to patent, (what kind of patent- utility, design, provisional first, etc), then to manufacture, (CNC, forging, casting, etc) and then to the market (market yourself, sell under someone else's company?, etc)
This series could be advertised on the Discovery Channel and also many of the motorcycle and automobile magazines.
This could be filmed perhaps (the initial stage with the inventors showing their inventions) at Daytona Bike Week, or OctoberFest as many of the Vendors that might be interested in selling these products would be there; such as J & P Cycles, Corbin, NAPA, Chip Foose or on the West Coast at the Oakland Roadster Show.
Naturally you would need a host/mc for the show; I, Monte (Motorcycle), have 38 years of motorcycle experience as a rider, mechanic and inventor. I am an AMI graduate and US Navy veteran. I have taken several classes in stand up comedy and would be a great fit for this show having gone through this very process myself.
Thank you.

What about a show that would talk about the real science behind popular science fiction of today. You could call it "How Close Are We?"
Some topics could be about past inventions, like the microwave for example, that were probably mentioned in science fiction long before they were actually perfected.
Another segment could contain things that are popular today in tv shows and relate them to things we are working on right now that just have not been perfected, yet. For example: Commercial Space Flight
Yet another segment could dismiss myth and conjecture about how things actually work and maybe how they could work. Of course only to leave viewers hanging on the fact that these things are not possible . . . yet.

I would like to see a show that deals with real life. You think my jobs is easy, YOU DO IT! different jobs with the real story behind it. did you know that the pizza delivery people get min. wage , no overtime, pay for their gas , ins( which doubles), and upkeep on cars, about 40% of the people don't tip and the ones that do it's not much. No health insurance, and part time hours! You raise a family on it. Or, yes it is easy being an actor if you don't mind never going out in public because everyone know your face.

I think we need Flip Up base boards for our homes, you can treat for bugs, and even hide those wires from the stereo, You can make these base boards out of wood or even out of plastic like the Faux Blinds in so many homes. This would aso work well in apt's no need to tear up the carpet to try to hide the speaker wires.
thanks !!!

As far as what this thread was started about, asking for product/project ideas, I'm all for the baseboard idea. Although, that seems way too easy.
Flying car: too complicated. People put millions into that, and I doubt DC wants to put that in on a project.
I'm guessing they're looking for more "better mouse trap" ideas. Maybe an easier/plug and play type car PC? Via's smaller boards have the horsepower, size, and power consumption that would work.
How about a method of cabling (or a different type/style of a fishtape/fiberglass extensions) for data/voice/video cabling? There are a lot of people out there with home stereos, theatres, computers, etc, that would be easier for a DIY'er install. I can't tell you how many people who've tried to use a fishtape and ended in tears.
A better/easier/safer car jack? The ridiculous scissor jacks that come in car trunks are a joke. I've had those almost crush me under a car, and when it matters, it seems jack stands are never around. A combination of a hydraulic jack/jack stand in a compact form? And hopefully something that will fit easily in a trunk.
Smarter, motion sensing, easy to use/install switches for lights (install into switch plates, sockets, wall mount remotes?).
Just a couple ideas.
And people - stop threadjacking! Read what the nice people at Discovery are looking for!

How about a car with a game controller. For instance a Playstation Controller.

Like to control the car? Might be interesting.
To put a Playstation or XBox in the car? Done over and over and over.
I think it might have been Saab or Volvo at one point that was looking at controlling a car with a joystick. Reminds me of a Beyond 2000 or Next Step episode (wow, I remember this stuff???).
Might be out of scope for this show, but it would be interesting to control it via eye movement (I'm thinking of the tracking system on the Apache helicopters). Or maybe not... I can see myself driving down the road and then looking over at a car coming the other way and WHAM accident FTW!

HOME IMAX THEATRE The Real 'Reality' TV
How about a wrap-around headset which covers your entire field of view much like the giant Imax movie screens do. add headphones. then using current imax technology and/or something similar, allow viewers to 'experience' the programs as if they were actually 'there'.
i would love to try back country snowmobiling, surfing the 'big ones' in hawaii, swimming with the whales or dolphins, ultralight flying etc.
Unfortunately most people cannot afford to ever experience any of these activities, so being able to simulate them at home at a fraction of the cost would be well worth it - never mind the fact that it would be a lot safer as well, for those of us who are just 'chicken'.
additionally, persons with handicaps would be able to go places and see and 'do' things they never would be able to otherwise.
i've been sure something like this has been 'just around the corner' for years - perhaps someone is working on it already.
oh, yeah...and by the way, you might want to take 'a car that parallel parks itself' off your wish list...

I have a cousin in her 30's that is having a very difficult time and has for many years but she has been an inspiration with her upbeat attitude. Her son was diagnosed with leukemia when he was 4, he is 16 now and has been in remission for many years. But not long after his long and hard battle with cancer his mother, my cousin, was diagnosed with MEN 1. MEN 1 is a rare inherited disorder that affects the Parathyroid, Pituitary, and Pancreas. It was then discovered she also had a brain tumor. She had the tumor removed but her health has not been good. Throughout all of this she has always been strong and optimistic. Recently she became ill yet again. Now it is started out as a simple cellulitis infection but without treatment, she does not have insurance and does not qualify for help from the government, it is threating to take her life. She is beggining to give up hope. She feels like she is a burden to her family, she requires alot of help for daily activities. Her 58 year old mother has to clean and dress her wounds and help her with all of her activities. She should be receiving care from a nurse not her aging mother. She needs surgery to remove dead tissue but no one will operate without insurance or money. She also needs medication for her MEN 1 which the Dr will not prescribe because she does not have a primary Dr. and without insurance is unalbe to obtain one. She is suffering from many complications that require medicine and medical attetion which she is not receiving. There are a couple of angles on this story. One is of her, her great outlook even when things are bad and all that she has been through. The other is how the medical field has failed her and is willing to let a simple infection take her life because she has no money and no insurance. All I want is for her to catch a break and get the help she needs and deserves. If anyone has any ideas on how I can help her I would love to her them. Thanks in advance for listening to her story. I know it was long but I left out many many details to keep it as short as possible.

Music education worldwide was searching for a point of support in the development of music literacy. When children play with cards and pictures of cubs with an unfamiliar abstract letter appearing in the same frame, they can figure out its name by looking at the corresponding picture. In this example, experience in recognizing pictures and speech are the natural point of support for children to learn to read.
In learning to read musical notation, however, we teachers do not know the point of support for children to read music, for to date there has not been an established system by which to assess students’ abstract music notation skills before the beginning of their music lessons.
Hellene Hiner and Valeri Koukhtiev of Houston, Texas, have created an innovative system to address this very obstacle. Their system, called 'Soft Mozart', is like a 'Table of Music Elements' where all the components of learning are organized in a methodical, logical way. The high level of efficiency and success with ‘Soft Mozart’ is rapidly earning them recognition and endorsement from many world-renowned professionals

I will start off by saying "Diamonds In The ROUGH". They are everywhere around us and go unnoticed everyday. Extra Odinary people living ordinary daily lives while struggling to help othes. The show would focus on people with disabilities physical, emotional, mental, etc, and their fight to stay a float and continue to help others at the same time. It would focus on the growing number of people and famalies in America facing problems and disabilities; letting others know that there is hope for all who suffer and a new gift can be born from a scary, unknown experience. Everyone can relate to this type of show. We all have loved ones who have suffered with diseases and disabilities and still stood strong while carrying a load all by themselves for those they loved. This show would be deticated to those that have gone on for the cause of a cure or medical testing to improve medicines we now have today to help us remaining. To live on and fight the good fight of survival and liberty of just trying to be normal in a critical world. I am speaking personally here. I am a young female facing an unknown life of MS but with new medicines and hope I will continue to live. The show would give encouragement, love, unity, and most of all hope. After all, where would any of us b | | |
