I just started working with a 5 year old 16.3 hand dapple grey quarter horse. He was western, and we are retraining him english. My trainer isn't buying him (unless he turns out totally amazing) but she is care leasing him until we can fine THE perfect horse (so he'll be around for a while). His name at the moment is Rippy. Ew. My trainer wants us to keep a semblance to "Rippy" out of respect to his owners, so it has to have "rip" in it, or something along those lines. All I could think of was "Ripp It Up" and "Découdre" (deh-coo-drae). Ripp It Up is okay, but it doesnt fit him, since we are doing hunters and because his main issue is he is lazy and smart enough to find ways of getting around work. My barn name is Fleur de Lis, and all of the horses have French influence in their names, so Découdre isn't bad, (it means "to rip up") but I have a feeling that most judges would not know how to pronounce it. Any ideas would be greatly, greatly appriciated!
actually, decoudre is a wonderful name! the announcer might not be able to pronounce it, but its still good! sorry, i just can't think of any good names that have rip in them either. sorry!
this might be a dumb idea but its worked for naming horses before...find a song that could be his theme song. Something that kinda sums up his personality and listen to it. there is bound to be something in there that might just work.
no, thats an awesome idea! i'll def keep it in mind next time i have a horse to name. i dont know of many songs with "rip" in them, and i think it may take more effort that it is worth to try and find one thanks!!!
I would stick to Découdre...It's got class and sounds perfect. I can visualize a stunning grey horse riding perfectly around a show ring with that name, and if I can, then the judges will...and we all know happy judges are good judges!
when we first started showing my horse, no one could say his name right!!! but now ever since we did this, people say his name correctly. heres what we did: on the entry forms we would write down my horses show name and next to it how to say it. this is what it looks like.
Nautiko (na-tico) as you can see, its hard to say!! if any of you are interested what it means, its a german navy or somthing like that. its german.
i think you can make lots of cute names wth rippy i know its not a horse show name and more like a pany name. but Fudge Ripple. or Ripple Through Time, how about Nippy Rippy. what do you think will those work?
