So im in this situation were i have the choice about which barn to keep riding at. I can either stay at this barn that's cheap, has a horse i lease(i get to ride 4 times a week), and a working student position(2 free lessons a week) for me but has REALLY bad trainers who think there amazing, or I can go to an amazing barn with an AMAZING trainer, but it's just so expensive that i would only be able to have a lesson once a week. which do i do?!!!!!!?????? please please help me!
if you think you have learned all you can from your current barn there is no use to be staying around and go to the new barn maybe you can get a working student thing there
i think youve learned enough at this barn with really bad trainers. time for an upgrade. see if u can do anything to pay off for more than a lesson once a week. does this farm have any horses for lease?
<can you stay on as a working student at your current barn and still take a lesson once a week at the expensive one?> If I did that then the trainers would be like if you can afford lessons at that expensive barn then why can't you afford lessons at our barn.
I have learned enough and I am so ready to move but it's just so expensive and my family is going through financial issues. I asked the trainer at the good barn if I could be like a working student or w.e but she said she doesnt really do that cuz her business isn't big enough for that. She does have horses for lease but leasing at her barn is $450 more than at the other barn and then on top of that u have to add lessons(which are $75 an hour)
maybe u could do a foundraiser or something to help pay for a leased horse and maybe make a deal with your parents like that you pay half or something and they pay the rest lol idkkk i hope everything works outtt
gee this is a tough situation. I have a friend who is in the same one. maybe u could do a bit of what lindsay does in horse power. continue to take lessons at the crap barn but only like once a week and lease a horse there and ride it everyday. Then, everyonce in a while, like before shows or every few weeks, go to this expensive barn. This big shot trainer can help you on your equitation on one of her lesson horses and then u can work on that at the other barn. The trainers probably teach alot differently, so dont take what your crap trainers say to heart. Maaye you could get a friend to vidoetape you at the crap barn, and then bring the tape to the good trainer to critique you once a week for a small fee. I ttly just pulled this suggestion out of my butt, but i hope it helps and i hope everything works out 4 u in the end.
maybe u should do kinda what lindsay did in horse power. U could continue to ride and lease at the origional barn. Take once a week lessons and ride the horse everyday. Just dont take what the bad trainers say to heart. Then, take lessons at the expensive barn once every 2 weeks or whenever u need a touchup. then at the other barn, practice what the good traier told u to do. maybe u could vidoetape yourself once a week and email it to the good trainer so she could critique u for a small fee. well i ttly pulled this idea out of thin air so hope it works for u.
i really wouldnt stay with the bad trainers. But then again, $75 a lesson is really expensive... are there any other places in your area that you could look at?
I would say do somewhat of what monetlover said. Stay at your current barn and say maybe that for now all you want is to lease no lessons and then instead of working for lessons work for your lease ( it might help lower costs.....)then take once a week lessons at the other barn on one of their school horses (if that is an option) Then you keep your legs in shape (because you can ride your leased horse whenever you want), you save money (that 450 a month more for the leasing at the other barn), and you get better lessons even if it is one less a week, but now you are not killing yourself or your parents because of the costs. If you have the finacial means to go to the nice stable DO IT. but other wise work out a comprimise.
P.S. look into group lessons at the nice barn if possible they are a win win situation cheaper for you though the trainer makes more money on the time spent teaching
thanks to all of you for replying. the expensive trainer doesn't to group lessons nor will she give me a 30 min lesson. only and hour for 75. all of the other barns around are the same price as well cuz i live in wellington. i think im gunna be a working student at the icky barn just so i can be around horses and then do my once a week lesson in wellington until i can afford more. you all are awesome. if u have any other ideas share them!
I say go to the amazing barn because there's no point in getting a lesson if your trainer is really bad cuz u probly won't learn anything cuz they're a really bad trainer. Getting a lessons twice a week and learning just a little bit or getting lessons once a week and learn a lot, i'd pick the second one cuz that's what i'm doing.
