so i have this GPA helmet that works but there is absolute NO chance of getting my hair into it (i have really thick hair) and so i got it liek 4 months ago and i have a show in liek a week.. me and my dad have been planign 2 get me a new helmet but i want 2 be sure that this is the right thing.. so what i want 2 do is.. keep the GPA that i can't fit my hair in, and practice in it.. and i think i am going 2 get a new one that i am SURE of that will fit ALL my hair in it and then JUST use that one 4 shows.. what do u think about that plan?

no!!!! if you already went though selling one and getting a new GPA, dont!!! you see, my friend has amazingly thick hair and she uses two hair nets and her hair fits in her GPA fine.

No! And I can relate too. I have hair that goes down to my butt and is SUPER thick, but what I do for shows is braid it super tight and then wrap it in a bun. It's really pretty, and I don't normally tuck it into my helmet, I let it be a low braid-bun, (whatever that's called) but if I have to get it into my helmet, I also have a GPA, and you know they are adjustable, right? You can adjust it so your hair can fit in your helmet.
If I mis-understood the problem, please tell me. Smile

oops, sorry! Didn't phrase it right.
I was trying to say that I've worn it under my hair, but if neccessary I've worn it inside my helmet. You just have to adjust the helmet with the wheel.
For The hairnet, just do what I did only put it up higher, pin it up, then put the hairnet on, then adjust the helmet, and you should be well off.

juniorlove, every suggestion i give you is always wrong. when really, they are usually right. and thats not a rule. if it was, it would be in the USEF rule book. my old trainer has it, and she says there is nothing wrong with that because when i had really short hair, i had to wear it in a bun and i champion many times in eq classes so if it was a rule, i would not place like that.

Maybe she's not part of the USEF and is in another association which DOES have rules governing hair. Also it could be her trainer requiring it to be in the helmet. I sure know mine would have gone batty if I didn't have my hair in the helmet and over my ears.

Hind sight is 20/20, but the helmet should have been tried on with all the hair under it prior to purchase.

Ok! Smile
But if you are paying for the new helmet and you want to save money, why not cut your hair some? It will probably help, and if you use special conditioners it seems to make your hair slightly thinner.
Then again, if you are like me you are really attached to your long, thick hair, lol! So you prob won't cut! Big Grin

try cutting it a bit still( it doesnt have to be like really short) and ask for it to be layered and anything else they can do to take some weight out of it. Talk To your hair dresser. I mean, i had the excact same problem and my hair was bad looking anyways so i got a new hair stylist and she made it perfect. So not only will it help with your helmet but it will look great too!

but i know this isnt style 101 so ANYWAYS, another thing to try is using a low ponytail, then getting the hair really really wet, like carefully dunking it in water. Then ring it out, flip it over and try getting the hair in the helmet.

How long is your hair? And you can always straiten it for school ect... and when you dont have time for that put it in a pony tail. My helemets kinda big depending on how much hair i have at the moment.
but yeah i know how it is rules dont matter toi trainers they have there own rules, but when it gets down to it i really do think hair looks best under the helemet.
And haveing a pratice helemet isen't a bad idea it just sucks the pratice one has to a $500or up GPA
