I'm really bad at coming up with show names. This is why I was happy to begin leasing a horse that I had leased last summer that already had a show name. Unfortunately, a more "high profile" rider decided to use the name on her jumper that she imported from Canada. The thing that frustrates me the most is that the show name (Rockstar, not great, but it's a name) is really close to the name of the horse I'm leasing (Rocky) and nowhere near the other horse's name...it was just something completely random that she chose. So now I'm stuck with trying to find a new name for him...

Has anything like this ever happened to anyone else? It's not a big deal, but it's hard to find a good name...

-Are you sure she knew that this was your horse's name already. If she's a higher profile rider than you, its concievable that while you knew of her horse, she didn't know of your horse (or you, for that matter!)

This is too bad, but seriously, I don't see anyyyy need to get parents and trainers involved!!!

it's kinda rude to hate riders you don't know. ^^ i have a high profile horse [on the AQHA circuit]...so you hate him?

anyways...if you're not doing jumpers [you didn't specify] then it's no big deal...you guys are in two different rings it shouldn't amtter what your horses' names are.

you know my name? supa strange! anyways...

i define a high profile ride as someone who is known on their circuit for being a good rider and who is often recognizable in the ring. generally they train with someone well known and stay in the ribbons and have very nice mounts.

Dont get me wrong, my deff. of a high profile rider is different. I see it more like a rider who has a high reputation for winning. And unfortunatly there are not too many good judges around here for the local circuit, so most of them will just pin the horses that they are the most familiar with. For example, at a show on saturday a girl won our adult/amature eq. class, despite chipping into 4 or 5 fences, because shes one of the most well known riders in the state and has been riding one of the top children's hunter horses for the past several years.

So thats my defonition, and PLEASE dont get me wrong... i spend so much time studying the top riders that i know are excellent, and i admire them.

and i will probably be jumped at again but...if you think what i said is rude, than i think that it is somewhat conceited to call yourself or your horse high profile. Modesty is a valuable trait.

^I agree with your last paragraph 100%. That is why i asked for all of you guys' definitions of "high profile rider" because i was some what suprised at the people who had no problem coming right out and saying "i'm a high profile rider!!!!"

I AM modest, but I have no problem telling people my horse is 'high profile' because he IS and if I said something else, I'd be lying. I 'advertise' my horse as no less or no more than he actually is. Which IMO, is just as important as being 'modest'.

If you'll notice, I didn't mention that I was high profile myself. Because I'm not. Eventually, yeah, I'd like my name to be recognizable at QH shows...but that's not going to happen right away considering I JUST started showing AQHA.

Sorry it's taken me a while to post again. By high profile, I mean people recognize her and consider her a very good rider. She started out doing jumpers when she was 10 while riding a 12.3 hand pony, but is now riding a new horse. I am going to be entering the jumper ring later this year, so I can't exactly keep the same name.

Here's a bit of random background info: Rocky is a 16.2hh chestnut gelding who has a red tint to his coat (he's gorgeous, in my opinion). He's the "top gelding" among the horses that he is turned out with. He's very well behaved and LOVES to jump. If you have any name suggestions, they would be greatly appreciated.
