I absolutely LOVE Medals Classes!!!!!!! they are so fun. i love eq. and its like my thing. I love the tests cuz its a challenge and makes you think. I am very proud hehe cuz at mi first AA show i won the mini medal!! yay!! except im thinking mini-medal is a little too easy cuz i have won every one i have been in except one haha. not to brag. So do you guys do medals classes? have you ever had to ride other peoples horses or had any crazy tests?
Oh and also it was really fun cuz my trainer set up the course from the Maclay in our ring at home and we just practiced it. i highly suggest doing this its superrr fun haha.
i'm doing my first medal equitation class next week! it's at an A show, but just the 2'6" medals, what should i expect? do they have like tests in all the medal classes?
I do the 2'6" little medals too. There are no in and outs, so you don't have to worry about that. Its usually rollbacks or sharp turns. Then the judge takes the top three or four riders and calls them in the ring usually to tell them the test. Sometimes the steward or gate person just says the test and then you can make sure you have it right. In a mini medal test, expect things like cantering a few fences, trotting a fence, halting and backing up. Sometimes the tests are just a work off on the flat too which is easier to me haha. so ya haha i LOVE medals!!! i can tell you all about themm haha.
my horse is pretty good about stuff like that, very responsive. have they ever asked you to do a counter canter? that is one thing i'm worried about because sam HATES cantering on the wrong lead, and won't do it for very long >.< i know in the maclays they ask you questions and stuff (i know because one time they asked if you could use pelhams in hunters and everyone got it wrong except for the girl in fourth or sixth place, and she won), they probably won't do that for an A show medal class right? that's usually just the bigger stuff. or maybe i'm wrong lol.
Medal rounds are designed to test the ability of horse and rider to navigate a difficult course flawlessly. When they call back riders for the test it's extremely important to listen carefully because they don't tell you over and over till you get it. I ride in the 2'9" Adult Medal Classes and the tests can range from simple tests like canter directly to fence 5 trot fence 7 halt back two steps and leave at the sitting trot... then they get more difficult at the last show I went to I had to show a change of lead twice on one long side, change of diagnols 4 times on the other long side halt in front of the judge immediately pick up the canter and canter to an in and out then trot to fence 9 which was a single vertical and you were jumping towards the judge to show straightness then posting trot out of the ring... They may also ask for you to cross your stirrups, show lead changes and sometimes they will specify simple or flying. But really ride the course be forward to the lines and compress in rollbacks, use your corners that's one of the biggest mistakes people make, and be original. Judges love riders who can take a course and make it their own.
