My mom told me that one of her friends got a horse. When they went to get the horse it wouldn't get on the trailer. So someone got a whip out and HIT the horse. The horse reared up hit his head on the top of the trailer and fell to the ground and died right then and there Do u think there was any way to prevent this from happening??
Get this the person that hit the horse was the old owner and the horse was around $10,000 to $15,000.
well if your mom's friend was already the legal owner of the horse, and the old owner caused this, then she has the right to press charges i believe for her 10-15k. I wont lie, some horses just have to be tapped on the butt with a lunge whip to let them know to get going (NEVER actually HITTING them!)- my horse is a bit like that. But there are so many different ways to get a horse onto a trailer that imediatly taking out a whip and beating it just isnt right
^ya i totally agree. sometimes u have to encourage them a little, but there are other ways to do it, like having 2 ppl stand on either side of the horse's butt holding a lead rope, then like pull towards the trailer to sorta push them up. i dont like this one but sometimes u have to put a chain under their lip (not pulling hard AT ALL) and get them to come up. Im sry about that horse. ya and maybe u should get into the legal stuff bout that...
oh, yeah, there was a way to prevent this:don't hit the horse. It was already scared of going on the trailer, and situation was made infinitly worse by hitting the horse.
My horse used to be a difficult loader. the more forceful anyone got, the worse he got. If you just waited him out, h'd go on after a bit. a lead rope around the butt and his favorite treat just out of reach from his mouth work faaaar better than getting mad.
if they used the whip as the last resort, then there is no case against the old owner, but only if they can prove it as a last resort thing.. its very hard to do it.... then again since there is no proff of this like a vidio, and its a he said she said situation,(i dont know how much the new owner knew about horses) there word would not be taken in to acount as much as the old owner if the old owner is a long time trainer. so there needs to be a third party involved. like a "horse loading expert" sometimes accidents happen. but it dosent sound to me that they did this as a last resort. then they need proff of " unessisery ruffness" how ever you spell it.. sorry guys i cant spell for a 20 year old, i know its sad :-(
If the person obviously wasn't educated to know enough about horses to get one in a trailer, they obviously can't handle owning one in the first place. The horse died because of the owner's lack of experience. If they had more experience, I would feel sorry for them.
Horses can be butts sometimes. If it was a horse that generally didn't have any trailoring issues, getting a longe whip out was no problem. But if it was a horse that was known to have trailoring problems, a differen route should have been taken.
I've dealt with all different types of horses, used longe whips tog et them on trailors.
This sounds like it was just one of those freak accidents. No one could have expected that the horse would react by rearing up.
ya sure everything with horses is dangerous, but taking a big whip out and hitting the horse when it is afraid is not going to make things less dangerous. they definitely should have known the horse better so this tragedy could not have happened.
You can't "know" a horse. They're unpredictable animals.
Saying the owner should have "known the horse better", or "isn't experience", or some of the things you guys are saying isn't fair. You don't know this person personally, you don't know anything about the time they've worked with horses. It's not fair for people to be talking about the person if they don't know them, it's just rude.
Secondly, none of us know the horse. We don't KNOW if it was scared. It could have been scared, it could have just been being a butthead. Anything is possible.
