THe ASPCA MACLAY Points depend on the number of riders in the class. If there are only 6-15 riders 1st place gets 10, 2nd gets 6, 3rd get 4, 4th gets 2. If there are 16-30 riders 1st place gets 20, 2nd gets 12, 3rd gets 8, and 4th gets 4, If there are 30 or more riders (say at the Devon Horse Show) 1st place gets 30, 2nd gets 18, 3rd gets 12, and 4th gets 6. Then the number of points earned.
The number of points you need to earn to win depends on the state you live in. You need 60 points if you live in Connecticut, New Jersey, or New York and 38 points if you live in Florida, Massachusetts, Pennsylvania, or Rhode Island. Every other state needs 25 points or less and if you live in Canada or Puerto Rico you only need 13 points.
Other requirements include being 17 years old or younger, a member of the United States Equestrian Federation (Annual due of $35 + discipline due of $15 for Hunter Jumper) and a member of the American Society for the Provention of Cruelty to Animals (Junior Membership is $25), and you must enroll yourself as a Maclay junior rider with the National Horse Show Association of America ($15)
I believe it's the top 3 riders from each region that get invited to the Maclay Final in Syracuse, New York.
^ there are way more than the top 3 that get invited to finals, as the finals class numbers hover in the 150-200 entrant range. each region is also alot a different amount of riders to bring to finals.
^ yup! but before you go trying to qualify...really train! take my advice from qualifying to eq finals before. you have to work ur butt off every day. its sooo much work, there were times when i would just want to give up. not to scare you or to be rude...just saying! but it all pays off when you place...no matter if ur 20th or 1st, you feel soo good and it makes you feel like you can do anything in riding. so its a great confidence boost for the future
here r some things u could look over before you try to get quailfed.
1. do u have a good equtation horse with excpriece with lare finals like these?
2. do u have the right trainers to get you there?
3. do u have the A-AA show expirence to handle the scedule and the competiotn that will be in the final?
GOOD LUCK!

Aside from having to be good enough to get there, you need to have the financial aid to back up your dreams. These shows cost upwards from $1000, and let you have almost no life outside of horses, so be prepared to make that kind of commitment.
First you must have a set number of points. you can find the number of points that corresponds with your zone by going to bigeq.com and clicking "Hunter Seat Equitation". Once at regionals you must place in the top of the list of riders, some zones take the top 23 others take the top 16 or even the top 9 so make sure you know where the cut off is.
Along with having talent you must also have drive and finacial means. You must be willing to give up a "social" life in turn for riding time. Shows like this often cost great amounts of money.
1. Wildfire doesn't have anymore experience then I have at the finals. But he's a good boy. He's my partner. 2. My trainer does all she can to help me and has become one of my best friends over the past 7 years 3. I hate getting up early, but once I am at the barn...I'm good. I have been to shows and had that experience.
