the horse i've been training the past few months has started to get cinch sores, on both sides behind her elbows. i've switched the cinch of course, and i've tried putting cloths on top, as well as vasleine, but nothing is working. and i have to ride her a least twice a week, when i am working because there aren't any other horses i can use for taking out trail rides. please help!!
Here are a couple of suggestions: ~Warm Compresses and antibiotic creams (Neosporin) will encourage the skin to heal. ~Keeping the area as clean and dry as possible ~Try a cinch that is shaped to bevel away from her elbow and made of an anti chafing vinyl for added comfort
It's best not to ride her while they heal, continuing riding will make them worse.
If you must ride, ride bareback.
Also look into getting another girth. Some horse's sensitive skin just can't handle a leather girth. Look into a fleece one or some sort of synthetic material.
yeah, i ride western, so i was using a felt cinch which caused them and am now using a cotton one, but it doesn't seem to be helping. they arent geting worse but they're not healing either. i ride her bareback when i'm not working but i cant if i'm taking out trail rides "barn rules". i have no choice but to ride her because nobody else is available. but thanks, i'm going to try to try a fleece cover too.
i agree with jumpercrazy but what my barn manager does is she puts proxide on it to clean it out then put furicen (i cannot spell for the life of me) on it to keep it clean and help it heal faster... but idk if anyone else put that yet so if u did then ya:P:P
