Just saw this: http://www.boingboing.net/2009...-shooting-using.htmlI would love to see the Mythbusters do two things with this. 1) Confirm that it's real, although I believe that it is. 2) See what it takes to do it with a real, FULL-WEIGHT anvil, as opposed to the 100-pound lightweight they used in the video.

1) Sure, it's real, there are many videos out there of anvil shooting.
2) I wouldn't exactly call a 100 pound anvil a "lightweight," but it WOULD be interesting to see how high my 371 pound Hay Budden anvil would go.
(Well, maybe somebody elses Hay Budden anvil...)

What would you do different? It seemed to me that the guy was being fairly safe, although, I might have used a longer fuse. It is clear that he has done this often. If you notice, there is a hole drilled in the anvil for the fuse. Regular anvils don't have any holes there.

Not sure what you would need to protect yourself. The force of an anvil that's headed 200' is a fair amount. It would probably be a lot less than a cannonball, but a huge boulder between that and me would seem about right.

Yup, I just saw this last YouTube video, thought it would make a great thing to test.

Interesting to note that they used a notepad for a gasket between the two anvils. I didn't see a lot of paper shreds, which you would expect. IMHO they weren't anything like far enough away to be safe. If it goes 200 feet straight up, its ballistic range is 400 feet. Better try this at the abandoned runway.

Not a pad, just a sheet to keep the powder in.

I love the idea of the mythbuster's doing some anvil launching. Perhaps substituting C4 for the black powder would greatly increase the height?
