First, I'd like to say that the whole Mythbusters corner of Discovery.com deserves a far better forum system and overall design. No myth there nor that it'd be worth it considering the amount of shows they put on that tried to mimic Mythbusters. :P

But enough of that.

This didn't start from a video but I did find one that attempted to test the myth. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OWVnCdGeZMI

Here's another video that talks a little more about the differences. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Qdx41UQM-8c

This all stems from an article I read. Long story short, teenager is killed when a baseball, hit by an aluminum bat, struck him in the head. The family of the young man sued the company that produces the bats, arguing "that aluminum baseball bats are dangerous because they cause the baseball to travel at a greater speed."

Now I know that corked bats were covered and busted mightily but I wonder how a metal would fair if it's significantly harder and absorbs less energy (even if it doesn't have as much mass).

Based on previous posts on about Wooden and Aluminum bats on these forums when an aluminum bat is made it is made less optimal so that it will closely match the performance of a wooden one.
