No cell phone in existence outputs enough radio power to pop popcorn that's placed next to it.

Let me repeat that again for all of the kids so eager to scroll down to the bottom of the page as quick as possible and make their very first post on this tired old topic:

NO CELL PHONE IN EXISTENCE OUTPUTS ENOUGH RADIO POWER TO POP POPCORN THAT IS PLACED NEXT TO IT.

Again, I don't think that everyone who gets the e-mail will come here to check the forum before believing and forwarding it on! I don't think they will check anywhere else for that matter!

Also, bustingnightmares20, I guess you are the expert since you have posted 992 times, right? I've only joined the forum recently so I MUST not have any idea what I am talking about!!! LOL
Seems anyone "new" to the forum should keep their opinions to themselves since yours is the only one that should matter!

I would like to see them do a short bust of this myth!

Everyone with half of a brain knows that Airplane on a Conveyor belt never had a chance either as simple science proves it busted.

Do it anyway! People beleive too much of what they see on TV these days, several of my friends have even shown me the video thinking that it was real! Someone needs to get the word out about this myth, and who better than the Mythbusters!
Everyone with half of a brain knows that Airplane on a Conveyor belt never had a chance either as simple science proves it busted.
Yet the thread with everyone complaining that MB did it wrong is currently at 225 pages in lengthen and almost 4500 posts.

People don't change their minds because they watch this show.

There is nothing to test with this. What? Test that with some video doctoring that you can make a video that appears to show pop corn popping. That would be a boring waste of a show.

The best way to combat this is to use the viral nature of the videos against them. When you get an e-mail with these videos, send a message back to the person you got it from, with a link to the CNN clip where they tell everyone about the making (faking) of the video. Tell them to pass the reality of it to the people that told them about it and who they passed it on too.

From what I have found it supposedly works if the top of four phones are pointing twords the center in a square. The when called at the same time, the radiation coming off of the phones is enough to pop a only a few kernels.

I simply cannot believe this one post which has video footage and newsreels of people admitting to faking the video of cell phones popping corn is causing such a controversy on this site!!!

Clearly, and even the MAKERS OF THE FAKE VIDEOS said it was fake. Why would they face the charges and reputation scars if it wasn't?

Explain that, all you believers!

Should MB test every commercial and hoax ad they see just to prove it wrong? That would be crazy!!!

Get over it.

No. Never.

Microwaves are more than 500× as powerful as cell phones, and look how long it takes them to pop popcorn.

If you think cell phones can really pop popcorn like in these videos, then I have some oceanfront property in Kansas I’m willing to sell you, real cheap.

As a newbie to the fansite I hesitate to overstep my boundaries, however, I believe if the Mythbusters try to reproduce the results of this myth, it may present a huge portion of science content. For one thing, they could allude to the laws of physics that govern the spectrum of radio waves. They could also explain the "inverse square law" which would help many consumers understand what kind of power they are actually exposed to daily.

I say just do it so we dont have any more of these posts. Everyone who passed the 3rd grade knows this one will be busted. But then people will be going on the sit saying
"You held the cell phones wrong" or

"You didn't use the cell phones right" or

"You used the wrong type pf cell phones."

So either way people will kepp on posting about this.

Cell phones give off RADIATION!! Especially when they ring. You just need enough cell phones and they all need to be aimed correctly and you could do it! I think that the Mythbusters should test this and I am pretty sure it will work!!!!!

No it won't. corn needs a heat source to boil the water inside the kernel so it explodes the kernel and then instantly solidifies again. No number of cellphones is going to do that.
