I agree, see my post called "Dangerous Job". Fishing is a joke compared to being "Down Range", we face more danger going to the latrine than these cats face the whole fishing season. But thats just my opinion.
agreed who decides these things anyway? what cuz you have a few deaths per year your job is the most dangerous. another thing. why dont they make them wear the survival "dry" suits the whole time instead of trying to throw them on at the last second? I DONT EVEN LIKE SEA FOOD! LOL
One to many times to be sure ill tell you a little story from Iraq i wont use names to protect those involved we where on patrol i was leading the squad we where out it was a routine patrol next thing you know a guy with a Ak appears on the roof opens fire i ordered the squad to take cover i took cover behind a low stone wall A young more insurgents appeared in the windows A young PFC stuck his neck out a little to far I he grabbed his neck I called for suppressing fire so the medic could get to him but he was already dead i ordered my squad to flank we kicked the door in one of the insurgents but a Ak round through my arm (ill tell you that smarted a wee bit)
Combat is more dangerous than fishing combat is more of and all out assault on your senses chances are in combat you arent gonna see what kills you
I was a Armor LT.1. I was sent to Saudi . I even spoke Arabic . I hate the Army more than fishing. College taught me to learn from my errors. The Army said to lie.
Why does this even get brought up as a comparison? As much as I respect our service men and women I do not understand why it has to become a pi***** contest on the board.
Combat places this show in proper perspective. After all, it's just fishing & it's TV. Certainly the most dangerous non-military or law enfocement job. Many Cops & other Gov. service workers are killed every year. Many u never hear about.
They can't wear the "Dry" suits all the time. If the interity of the suit is copromised, even with a small hole, it leaks & u die. On one show, a survivor whom was plucked from the sea by the Coast Guard, explained how a shipmate tore his suit while putting it on. He said he knew right off he wouldn't survive, & he didn't.
The reason it is listed as the most dangerous job is because of statistics. there are 60 boats in the fleet with an average of 6 men on each boat. Every year we lose from 1 to 7 men. on a good year that means the odds are 1 in 360 and a bad year its 1 in 51. its just odds thats all.
