The summer after graduation from high school I worked at the county animal shelter until I went to college in the fall. Apart from cleaning out dog & cat cages filled with urine & feces we were also in charge of shoveling the carcasses of road kill and the euthanized animals from the shelter into the crematory. Oh yeah, there was also the times when we had to cut the heads off of animals suspected of having rabies. They were already humanely euthanized, but it was still...ugh. I will never, ever forget the carts full of dead animals. what a horror.
