I noticed only there have only been a couple of Military dirt jobs that you have had fun with Mike. Well as we all know the Military is full of dirty nasty jobs. You need to step up and try some out.
Here is one of the best (or worst) that the Navy has to offer.
I as a Hull technician in the US navy and one of our many jobs in that job rating is that of the ship’s plumber. Inside the Navy we are called "Turd Chasers". Well all those people on the ship have to go somewhere and when the ship is not hooked up to the shore facilities we have to store all that "poop" somewhere. The actual system is called the CHT system. That stands for Collection, Holding and Transfer...of poop. Each ship has huge room sized holding tanks for storing the collected "material". We wait until we are the legal distance out to sea before we start to pump the CHT overboard.
The dirty part of this job is the cleaning of the tanks. Naturally as the rookie onboard, I got the lucky job of cleaning the tank for inspection. Imagine a room full of poop, dripping from the top and sliding down the sides as you attempt to clean it. We also had to get elbow deep as we replaced or cleaned the CHT pumps around the ship. These pumps act as grinder and pumps for anything flushed in the ship.
We also have fun when the pumps get clogged. Wedding rings, class rings, belts, all sort of fun stuff. If we can get the name of the person missing the flushed item, we are nice enough to return it to them...poop and all in a very public manner.
So next time you want to go on a new "Dirty Job” think about those Navy ships and all the CHT that they produce. Someone has to clean it. Do you want to Mike?
I would LOVE to see Mike and the Dirty Jobs crew spend more time with our Enlisted folks (Officers tend to avoid the dirt ) I know I've personally spent alot of time on KP duty (Saw Mike doing it in the opening of an episode, but haven't seen a full segment) and probably the worst (for me) was burning... "Waste" while deployed. Any duty that'll get a Soldier into MOPP4 in 100 degree weather has GOT to qualify as "Dirty"
Anyway, love the show and to Mr. Newman and all our Soldiers, Sailors, Airmen and Marines... Hooah!!
