I am a senior at the University of Vermont and am a big fan of Dirty Jobs, I have been thinking about sending this job in for a while now and decided to just do it. So, here in the cool college town of Burlington, VT, we are blessed with an awesome dirty job. We have a place called the Intervale, which is 365 acres of farmland, nursery, trails, wildlife corridors along the Winooski River, as well as compost production. It was created in 1987 to help restore the depleted agricultural lands of the Intervale. It has grown to become Vermont's leading compost operation, recycling 20,000 tons of waste each year that produce a wide range of compost-based agriculture and horticultural products. There are HUGE mounds of compost everywhere and everything involved in making it is pretty...dirty. Summer or Winter is equally interesting and dirty, plus who doesn't love Vermont?
