The episode where he ran with a California fire department barely scratched the surface of how dirty a job firefighting is. We had a call where people on the radio were discussing a location in our district very obliquely. It was obvious that they didn't want to actually say what the job was but they called my volunteer fire station to see if anyone was there who could bring a truck to the scene. It turned out that a family hadn't seen or heard from a member in a couple weeks and wanted a well being check on him to be made. That resulted in us being called out to assist the County Coroner with picking up the body after being deceased for two weeks. Suffice it to say,if you get such a call, try to be the one standing on carpet if the body is near a doorway in a tiled floor. Those little paper booties provided with a hazmat suit don't lend much traction in bodily fluids. The guy running the decon station was not happy with me for slipping into the "lake".
