Hi Mike. Love your show, and especially your sense of humor. Well, this was a few years ago, when I was just out of college, and I got a job at a hospital. I worked in the Pathology Department in Central Distribution. This was the site were ALL, and I mean, ALL specimens that were collected are sent to CD to order, process, and send to appropriate labs. I learned real quickly not to associate the specimens and that they actually came from people! Some specimens were the basic blood, urine, swabs, poo and sputum is somehow extremely disgusting in a cup. But one day was a crazy one for sure and I got some really interesting "specimens." First there was a large item wrapped in brown paper and was heavy. I read the paperwork, yeah, some dude's leg! Then I got a zip-lock freezer bag with a brain in it. Cool, but really spongy and, well, gross. Then there was a kidney...and a heart. No, they weren't all from the same person! Anyways, when we get tissues and parts, we have to open them up to make sure it's in the right fixative and if it's not, then we have to fix it. That stuff is potent and can actually harm you if you inhale too much so you have to be quick and try not to spill. Oh yeah, I almost forgot the guy who had to do a 72 hour fecal collection. They used to have to be collected in these paint-can type containers. So this guy collected a 72 hour poo spree and then left it in his car, on a 98 degree day! All I can say it that he was lucky the zip lock bag it was in didn't rip apart when the damn thing exploded! He brought it in and it was just horrible. I almost passed out from holding my breath so long! A laboratory can never have enough air fresheners! I must be immune to it by now. I still work in a laboratory where we draw blood for outpatients. Well, just thought I'd share my story. Thanks for the endless entertainment!
