Hi There,

I personally am an off again, on again viewer of the show. It didn’t occur to me how desensitized we were about the show until my boyfriend came over for dinner while we were watching Dirty Jobs and couldn’t eat and actually got sick while watching it. (can’t remember what episode it was, but it grossed him out big time.) the rest of us were looking around, eating dinner, going . . . “What?”

My big brother (Who is forever my hero in so many ways Smile gets the prize for doing the dirtiest job I’ve ever heard of. He’s an Assistant Manager at Ace Hardware in Riverside now, but he surely did not start out that way.

For years he worked for a weed abatement company whose primary function was to go to open fields, empty lots, and places that neglected to keep their property weed free as the fire ordinance requires. Every day he would come home with absolutely no part of his person that wasn’t covered in grime, dirt, weeds, and other nasty things like dead bugs and such.

Among his many adventures as a Weed Abatement field guy, would be “Rattle Snake Hill” which every year would be covered with rattlesnakes of every age and size and the only defense they would have against these deadly creatures was a weed whacker. Fields near areas of town that were not only dangerous, but one time had a gang funeral not a few blocks away where everyone involved with it was out looking for blood. The hazards of finding bodies that had been thrown away in fields which would be horrid for anyone to find once much less on a regular basis.

Even with all this, there is one dirty job that he did while working for this company that rises above all the rest:

His boss was contracted by a city to clean out a small house that seemed simple and innocent enough. It was filled from the floor to the ceiling with garbage, including old milk containers, half eaten food items, and all sorts of things that should be thrown out immediately.

What made this a particularly dirty job, was the fact the previous owner of the house had hung himself in one of the rooms and no one found him until 8 weeks after his death. The smell was absolutely . . . well, I can’t even find a word to accurately describe the depth of just how disgusting and stomach turning it was. My brother couldn’t eat for the entire time they worked on the house, and I could understand why after trying to take him his lunch one day and stupidly walking into the house. Even though the masks they wore the stench was unbearable. To make things even worse, and MORE fun with this lovely disgustingly dirty job, his boss’s truck sank into the old rotted out septic tank in the front yard, from which my brother and his partner had to un-stick.

So, I’m sorry Mike, but even with all the disgusting things you’ve done over the years, my brother might have just beaten you out with this one.

Either way, my brother is a HUGE fan of your show and never misses an episode if he can help it. His birthday is January 4 and I was wondering if I could somehow get an autographed picture of you, or something like that to give him. I know he would love it more then anything.

Oceans of Love, ~Marian K. Welty~
