Like Mike I've worked a lot of different Jobs in my life. The worst day was while working as a volunteer EMT for a rural service. We were located at least 30 minutes from the nearest hospital and would often have to have volunteer firefighters ride in the back of the ambulance to assist with CPR during the half hour transport time. The worst day occured when a patient with a serious head injury had an episode of projectile vomiting which went straight up to the ceiling of the ambulance and spread out like a chunky umbrella onto every one of us in the back of the unit. I would like to say that we managed to retain our professional composure but I can't. About one minute after the paitent vomited one of the volunteers did likewise setting off a chain reaction in the back of that ambulance, where each one of the five of us ended up vomiting at least once on the rest of the trip into the hospital. On our arrival there, several of the hospital staff met us at the ambulance bay (as usual) and when they opened the unit doors to help us unload the patient they were assaulted with the sights and smells associated with five grown men taking turns wretching. If I remember correctly as least a couple of them added their lunch to the mess in that little piece of heaven that day. It took hours to completly clean out that unit and I ended up just throwing out my clothes and wore scrubs for the rest of the shift, A couple of years latter a newby asked me why I continued to wear my turnout gear in the back of the unit despite the sweltering summer heat and all I could do was laugh.
