The dirtiest, and funnest, job I ever had was with a slash burn outfit. After timber is logged from a unit, the slash burn crews dig fire trails and burn the 'slash' that's left over on the unit. When the fire dies down, they go in to 'mop up' and put out the remaining fire. The ash and mud would be so thick that my skin was black under several layers of clothing. We would also be called in occasionally to help put out (unplanned) forest fires.
