I work for my father-in-law building custom handcrafted log homes. We use a drawknife to hand peel the logs. Usually, the logs are black from being in forest fires, so you end up with black dust and dirt all over you. We peel in the warmest to coldest Nebraska weather. We grind cups in the logs to fit on the house. Scrafing and sanding the logs for a spot for the next log. After building the rough log house in the log yard, we take it apart and load it onto trucks to be shipped to where we will reassemble it at its permanent home.
