For the last 23 years I have owned my own company. At Black Velvet Chimney Services, we are in charge of cleaning, repairing and yep removing DEAD things from chimneys. I gotta tell ya that there’s nothing that smells worse than someone’s home after 3- 4 days of dead raccoon or squirrel rotting in the chimney. When you can smell it through a 375.00 respirator, you know it stinks in the chimney. Oh yeah the maggots and fly’s in the chimney behind the damper on the smoke shelf. Without an anatomy lesson in chimneys, this is the area in question. If the animal is large enough, it can be VERY difficult to EXSTRACT the carcass from behind the damper. Time to use the vacuum to break up the "pieces" of critter..... (I recommend you folks reading this invest in a Professional Chimney Person to make sure a cap is properly installed.)I have removed pounds of bird poo from behind the damper.
Now granted I am not up to my chin in pig poo, but it’s enough for me
