Are you going to be paying for the lessons? If not, there's really nothing you can do except bargain. If you get an allowance that might help. Riding lessons are NOT cheap (the cheapest around me is about 35 bucks a pop, and it just keeps going), so if you aren't paying that's more money for your parents to shoulder. Not to mention the added price for gas. If you really want them, sit down with your parents and see if you can work out some sort of deal where either you pay so much money or do certain chores around the house. That's really the best way to do things. If you are willing to take on responsibility, parents tend to be a bit more flexible.

Mad4equine is right lessons are expensive! First find a local stable in your area, see how far away it is if it's about more than half an hour away your asking for a lot of your parent's time and they may not be able to drive you back and forth such a far way. The stables I ride at is only 15 minuets away and my parents dont mind a bit. Also can your parents take you every single week? Instead of starting out going every week you can start out every other week and see how it goes. Also it is fun for your parents to watch you ride, and take videos and show it to other family members too! My parents video tape me riding at my lessons sometimes (even though sometimes it's embarrassing) and send it to everyone! Roll Eyes
Best of Luck! Wink

Perhaps they are worried you will get hurt. Look at some of the other posts about this subject. There are a whole bunch.

Ask your parents, what is it exactly they don't like about it? Is it the expense, your safety, the driving distance, or all of those things? Research good lesson barns in your area, use your savings to buy a safety helmet, then ask them again. Good luck!

Yes, Riding Helmets are a must!

If it's something you really want to do, your parents should be behind you (They SHOULD be).
It's a good family experience, and try to convince them it's like being on the soccer or swim team-
you get to practice real hard, and then go to the big meet or show. They may change their minds a little bit.

Lessons might be expinse some places but not here. Only 10 to 15 dollars a week. So you can have lessons on Monday then like Friday or any other days and more days and it costs 10 or 15 dollars.

For my lessons it is once a week and for private one hour lessons it is $35 and for group lessons that are and hour and a half it is $25. So it isn't too bad. Some people charge like $60 an hour.

You can do work in exchange for lessons too if you don't have the money but have the time.
