Ruffian was a movie that was on, on saturday. It was about a filly who was a race horse. I didnt see the whole thing but i beleive one day she was racing against a colt to see who was better or something like that, well anyway during the race she broke-down as they said. she went into surgury and only had a 10% survival rate. she survived but when she woke up she was in shock and thought she was still running she ended up breaking her other leg. the owner decided to put her down.

I know her story. She was the filly that ran against colts and beat em'. There was a colt that was really good and she ran against him in the Breeders Cup. That was the end of her racing and near her life. Instead of racing against other fillies in the Breeders Cup, her owner wanted her to go against colts. She was VERY famous.
They brought her back to her stall (she shattered about three bones in her leg) and they put her in a sling. When she awoke, she thrashed so much that it was doing worse to her leg so they put her down.
My mom got the movie from the libary. It made me cry.I mean if they had not pushed the owner into haveing this race she would still be alive. The relationship between her and her trainer was awsome. He had three rules. Not to use the whip.To win.The third one I do not remember. But she was SOME horse. She looked like a swan.In the extras they had a tribute to her and barbaro.her race history and a few other cool things. She was one laid back horse.Imagine if her and barbaro had had a colt or filly togther.
Ruffian was born April 17, 1972 and died on July 7, 1975. She was three. She would most likely nOT be alive today. She would be 35 years old if she was still alive. Get your facts straighter. That was over 30 years ago.

I had a racehorse and she is still alive today, and now she is 24 I think.
Thanks, Speedcards, for that awesome website. I remember Ruffian, and it's so cool that lots of youngsters remember her too! If she'd lived long enough to have foals, imagine what her heritage would have meant to racing and to eventing.
Horsesrlife, what is that movie about her? I want to see it.
