If your horse doesn't sweat it either has a gland problem or is dehydrated.

Giving the horse a beer will only dehydrate it more, and not help at all.

If a horse has such a serious problem as not sweating, a trip to the vet is in order, not some at home witch remedy.

Roll Eyes

Right. You go ahead and give your horse beer. I won't. Riding for four years obviously makes you a know it all expert.

I'll just keep my 21 years of experience to myself.

No it doesn't make him loopy. I don't if a horse can get drunk. It does make him sweat though. And to angeleeta, I can keep my trainer's forty five years expeience to myself too. Also wonder why her, and the vet would say the same thing and why in the world would it work? Oh yeah because it's the solution!

All my horses sweat just fine. So you can keep your solution to yourself, and I'll keep my beer to myself. Razz

I've never given my horse beer, though it's been considered a good grain supplement (especially in Britain) dating back many years, and my childhood trainer from England recommended it highly-not the type of "lite" beer that's typically sold in the USA, but something like Guiness that's dark, malty and grainy. My trainer would mix it up in a warm bran mash for his horse after a long, tiring day of hunting or eventing, the point was to give him an easily-digestible form of grain that would not cause him to colic after a stressful day. I doubt if one 12-ounce beer for a 1000 lb horse would make him loopy. I've never heard of giving beer for anhydrosis though, I'll have to ask around and read up on this. I agree that you should be sceptical about "witch-doctor" remedies, but in many cases some of the old-fashioned tried-and-true remedies seem to work well, often with less harmful side effects than the latest aggressive medical treatments.

Okay here's the deal it 's not awitch craft remedy!!! I've tried it on horses that aren't even mine and it works, you shouldn't be skeptial about it either!!!! And also if ms. angeeleeta cares she can take it elsewhere becasue these forums are for posting things and solutions, she shouldn't care!!!! But then again she's probably just stuck up.

umm.. I really don't think you should give a horse beer, I talked to my old horse's vet and she has been a vet for 30 years and she said if you give horse beer it could cause serious problems. oh yeah and your the stuck up one here meerktrox, you should try taking others peoples idea's and considering them instead of just thinking their wrong.

I hve considered other peopes ideas. I did serious research before jus tfeeding it to my horse. I wasn't just going to give it off vet recommendations. And so if you don't mind i'll keep giving my horse beer, it'll keep working, and you two ediots can keep being that way because even though it doesn't work on your horses, which you just haven't tried it, doesn't mean it doesn't work on mine. So e ediots and stuck up snobs, i don't care I'll just do what i want with my horse and you two ediots can be well dumb, ediots. Oh, horse_exprt which i doubt you are one, because if you were you'd know this works, it's spelled meerkatrox not meerktrox. ediot! Mad

The name calling is very unnecessary. This is a mature forum for all sorts of people to come and share opinions and ideas. Mature debates are excepted, but stooping to school yard name calling is just laughable, and quite ridiculous. You'll be reported to a moderator.

If this is how you're going to respond to people when they tell you they don't like your idea, your presence isn't going to be welcomed or wanted here.

Anhydrosis is a MEDICAL condition that needs to be seen to be a veterinarian.

You can't fix a medical condition by giving your horse beer.

Which is just stupid.

ummm I really wouldn't give my horse beer but you can do what you want. And I really would be rude to people. angeeleeta is very experianced and she knows what she is talking about. She is just trying to help you and your horse. And it would be nice if you can maybe check your spelling. It is hard for people to take you seriously. But that is just my suggestions. You can take them or leave them

I would have to agree with angeeleeta beer is best left to the adults.. and the horse should see a different vet if your vet said to give the horse beer. I have grown up with horses and I have been riding for the last 19 years I have never in my entire life heard that it was a good idea to give a horse beer. EVER

Like I care how to spell your name and I think that me and angeeleeta will keep to our horse knowledge and take our vet's advice. Just for the info I can name 160 horses and I know just about every type of problem it can have because I happenend to go to a vet's school for a while and to prove your no expert and probably young, idiot is spelled with an i.
