Hey my Aunt said she'd get me a horse and board it at her stable. What kind of hirse should it be? I do alot of looking. I ride english and western, and want to trail ride and show. Petfinder just isn't enough now. So if you have any suggestions PLEASE HELP!
well personaly a think a stallion would be good or for show and stuff a cyklopps u know the big horses with all the hair on their feet...i dont know but i think a stallion would be the best but choosing the sex of the horse is up to you.
u deffentiley don't want a Stallion unless u have had more then 4 horses in ur lifetime! But i know just the horse;a Quater Horse would be perfect they go western and english and are extremly nice and can be 15-17 hands, but i would reommend that u stick with english because in western it is bad for the horse and barrel racing and pole bending well tare up ur horses legs and tendons causins the fetlock, and patern to weaken. stick with english pleasure or Equation!
some breeds to look up! P.R.E.(Andalusian)is 15 to 16 hands and you can use it for Dressage and classical english riding, pleasure and all-around riding. the paso fino is 13 to 15.2 hands and good for showing, trail and pleasure riding.the friesian is 15.2 to 16hh and is good at driving and dressage. can also be used for trail riding. too meny horses?lol!here are more! paint horse, appaloosa, hackney, lusitano, missourri fox trotting horse, morgan, rocky mountain horse, shagya arab and warmbiood. now pony breeds!connemara, erskay pony, haflinger, pony of the america,... well, i could go on and on and on...LOL!
it sounds to me you want an all around horse or anotherwards a horse that will let you do it all. i would probably get a stock type horse like an appaloosa, paint or quarter horse. they are normally pretty versitile. you would want it to be older too with more experience unless you planned on doing lots of work with it and going through lots of training with the horse which requires a lot of patience. good luck finding yourself a horse! they're great animals and if you're openminded they will teach you lots. enjoy!

ahhh just read this and it isn't necessarily true! it really depends on the rider and their experience! i ride my 4 year old paint and we race and just have a good time- BUT i also protect his legs with good boots, regular trimming and i race in moderation! your absolutely correct though about it can really mess up a horse's legs... esspecially if the horse isn't ready for it! if you race a two year old really hard- yeah its a definate possibility due to the horse's legs not being ready. i know what you're trying to say... but its not all bad. it really depends on age of the horse and work its doing and how often etc. you can't hurt a horse's legs by barrel racing it unless the rider doesn't know what their doing.
oo and the writer is right about the stud thing. studs are a lot more to handle. and if you don't understand that a lot of the stud's behavior is on instinct then you don't want a stud. they can be a handful but if its your first horse and you've never handled a stud or worked with one you probably shouldn't get one.
My old horse Torando goes western and english, but he had a huge carreer in Barrel racing and the rider was really good, and had splint boots on and bell boots and the horse still had bad legs and he didn't have them like that before he was fanstaclly breed is was a desendent of Seattle Slew, and is a thoroughbred standing at 17hh i wish he didn't get into western because now he can't jump, i personally think that english is better for the horse, the saddles are lighter and our spurs aren't so harmful!!!!!
i see your pont, but No hoof no horse is for ALL horses not just western horese. look at TBs, thay go english in races and get arthritis, bowed tendons, fractured legs and more!
i wouldnt get a stallion they are to hard to handle and sometimes are very bad i would go with a gelding or a mare because they arent so hard to handle. the age i would say for a beginner is anywhere from 10 to 13 the oldest. and for an intermdet rider anywhere from 6 and up so it is really how good of a rider you are and how calm you wanted the horse to be what i mean by that is 1 being the calmest and 10 being very high spirited i would get at least a 3 cause i is a very lazy horse and the type of horse breed i would get is anything but draft and adulision or however you spell it but anyway that is my opion.
but english riders take better care of uor horses we actually put protetive padding on our horses when we go to a show while in the trailer, and i have never seen a western rider do it!
no one should dis western riders i own 6 horses all do barrel racing and nothing is wrong with them anyway 2 of my horses are coldbloods not very fast so if you want to do any jumping dont go with coldbloods warmbloods maybe - dressage i would get aarab because the do changes in thier pace fast you should go withg a quarter horse apaloosa lipazzan (have three) or a TB but no one dis western riding i dont think english riders take better care oh and miss horseloverjumper im a western rider and i do so dont judge by what you see
I am, but everybody acts like they know everything about horses, and they don't! I mean come on i am certified in veteranary, i know the acpuncture points of the horses, and how to treat everything a horses comes down with!!!!!!!!!!
